I know exactly how you feel. When it was time for Kaitlin to go back into

the DBB after casting a second time I felt the same way. I wished we could just

stay in the casts for another 3 months. I remember dreading the day she

would go back into the DBB, I was so afraid of sores...But it was all for

nothing.

I don't recall her crying a bit that day. I was so relieved. I still had

my happy little baby girl, brace and all. (we did end up having to get the

sandals though d/t friction spots returning where her old sore was..but

I never let it get as far as another sore that time...experience helps alot)

I think your experience will be much better this time around. One reason is

that correction is likely to be complete and the shoes won't inflict pain

(maybe frustration at first) and the second is that you are probably alot more

educated and experienced this go around than you were the first time...that

helps

tremendously.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Same for us.. After had his second tenotomies I was worried to death to

put him back in the shoes. We had a horrible time the first go round too. I

think he fussed just a little because of being held down while the docs were

putting them on and when they were done so was he. Playing with his toys like

nothing ever changed. It was great.!!

I felt the same nervousness when my son was about to get

his casts off and go into the shoes for the 2nd time...(The

1st time was horrible...screaming....sores...horrible you

know what I mean.) So when I went to get the last cast off

I asked Dr. Herzenberg should I expect the same horrible

things...And he said absolutely not everything is going to

be fine and he will be happy. Well to tell you the truth I

didn't believe him. But he was right. We drove home from

Baltimore with the shoes on and he never made a peep. And

he has been fine ever since. It does take a little getting

used to for baby and mom but no screaming or sores. So I

think as long as his feet are fully corrected and the heel

has come down there should be no problem. Just make sure

you pull the strap really tight that's very important. It

will almost seem to tight but thats ok..I'm sure they will

show you how at the Dr.'s office. I hope all goes well for

you and you baby. Keep up the good work.

and (5/10/03) bcf treated by Dr. Herzenberg
