Guest guest
I'm 26 weeks, with no complications except lots of dumping with this baby. When I mentioned to my OB that GTT will make me dry heave for at least 30 minutes, he offered to have me do it when his office was mostly empty. However, I cannot bear the thought of this, as even a swallow of milk or OJ will make me heave. 1) Has anybody had any other type of GTT? I've done some research and seen something about post-prandial testing, and there was a thread on this site about an IV push. Was wondering if anybody has tried these. 2) What are the symptoms of gestational diabetes? I'm NOT craving water, which is something I'm told is a symptom. I have had some blood sugar issues since WLS (5 years post op) but if I stay away from sugar, I'm fine. Any info would be appreciated! Guest guest
I believe they address the procedure recommended for WLS patients when it comes to GTT in the FAQ available from this newsgroup. What they recommend is for you to take a fasting blood sugar count at your OB, then eat a regular breakfast and come back two hours later for another blood sugar count. What my OB did for me was to take a fasting blood sugar count (through blood drawn from my arm.) Then, because I had to go back a few days later for something else, they had me eat exactly two hours before my appt time, and they drew more blood and did a blood sugar test. Now, EVERY time I have an appt (which is every week) they prick my finger and do a blood sugar test in that little machine like diabetics use. I always make sure to eat a meal exactly two hours before my appt time so it's an accurate reading. You don't have to take the GTT test, or eat jelly beans or anything you don't want to do. My belief is that a procedure similar to what I and many users on this group have done works just fine, and when the OB tries to insist on something different, just take a copy of the " Pregnancy after Gastric Bypass Surgery " article you can print from this newsgroup.
