Guest guest
Jayme I'm so happy for you, just so happy! Are you staying in Iowa City or with your frineds 2 hours away? Either way, wishing you all the best, keep in touch, OK? shawnee Back from Dr. P I am so relieved that we went to see Doctor Ponsetti. It was the most pleasant experience! What a gentle, caring man. He had 2 German doctors and 1 Brazilian doctor in with him working on our little Ava. He put her in casts and said to come back the following monday to go to bracing. He took one look at the shoes and bar that my ortho prescribed and shook his head. He said that it was all wrong and he hoped we can take them back. He couldn't believe how short the bar was and measured her shoulders and the bar just to show me how far off it was! He told me that could cause a lot of pain and I said it sure did cause a lot of pain. Of course, without it, I would not have found this group and you wonderful people who pointed me in the right direction. I am so glad that we went to Iowa. If you are questioning it yourself, and you need peace of mind, just do it! I hear Angel Flights are free, so what do you have to lose? I have been on the phone with my local television station to try to spread the word about this wonderful group and that other mothers going through the same thing aren't alone. I will also be calling my ortho tomorrow to offer some 'encouragement' to get some more training from the master. Dr. P personally invited my doc to go there, so I will share that info with them. This won't be easy to do, so please say some prayers. Thanks again for your wonderful help, support, and encouragement. Without you I wouldn't feel so relieved right now to know that Ava is getting the BEST care possible! Guest guest
Jayme-- I'm so thrilled for you and your little girl! I hope the opportunities to share your story work out. One place to try is your local paper. I don't know how big of a town you are in, but many newspapers will do " human interest " stories--and I think they really like the ones with happy endings. It's great that it looks like Ava will only need the one cast. Less travelling, for one thing... Is she not going to need the tenotomy at all? I do wish you courage in talking to your former doc. You may want to print out a copy of the Global Help booklet(if you're feeling mean or immature, you could highlight all the things he's doing wrong) http://www.global-help.org/publications/cf-english.pdf I have given a copy of this to just about everyone I know who might come into contact with babies with clubfoot: our pediatrician, nurses in OB at 2 hospitals, childbirth educators, midwives. Along with the contact information for the closest doctors practicing the Ponseti method(all at least 300 miles away) and my own contact information. We're in a pretty small community, so raising awareness is not that hard to do. I really admire your attitude. Please let us know how it goes. Travel safely next week. Guest guest
Hi Naomi, Thanks for the wonderful ideas with my ortho. Is there a place I can order copies of that booklet? It is just incredible! I would love to give one to everyone I encounter, and I think it would be great to give to the tv lady, too. Nope, it looks like we don't need the tenotomy. I guess we are one of the lucky 20%, right? Thanks so much! Jayme Independent Sales Director for the Pampered Chef fullnelson@... Guest guest
I love hearing stories like this, although it makes me just a little jealous Darbi's foot is in such good shape that I have no reason to pack her up and haul her to Iowa LOL... I'm curious, since it was discussed here recently... how did he measure the width anyway? Was it bolt to bolt, heel to heel or screw to screw (screws on the bottom of the shoes)? Guest guest
Hi Jayme I feel a little warm and fuzzy after reading your post. Dr P sounds like a fantastic person. What's he like when you met him face to face. He's a saint.
