Guest guest
I think your doc is a Nut Nut, lol... I had Gestational diabetes BOTH my pregnancies and they were kept under comtrol my a GOOD DIET. How in the world could you possibly have it if you are eating well after WLS? I think she/he is wrong. MY surgeon told me now that I had lost weight I will not have regular diabetes in my older age like the said I would without losing weight. So I really would like to know where your doc gets this too... HUGS, ROBIN, NY Age- 41 Due Date- #4 July 27th, 2004 OPEN RNY 10-18-02 378/246/170??? Guest guest
Were you glucose intolerant before or type II. My MD states once you are classed as diabetic --- your diabetes doesn't go away you just have good control of it with exercise and less eating. If you have sickness or times of stress ie: pregnancy included that your blood sugar might rise. Guest guest
Chrystal, This doesn't make sense to me either, especially when you combine it with the fact that many, many people who are diabetic do not need to take their diabetes meds literally days after their WLS because their bodies are processing sugars better. How much experience does this specialist have with WLS patient, I would be interested in knowing that? What did they base their information on? Axelrod more likely to have gestational diabetes? Hi All, When I went to see the specialist last week she said that I would be more likely to have gestational diabetes now that I have had WLS than when I was 350 and pregnant. Does anybody understand this? Cause I just don't get it. Why when I am so much healthier and lighter would I be more likely to get diabetes while pregnant? I don't remember any talk of this in any WLS literature.... Guest guest
I also asked the specialist how this is possible since my pre-wls pregnancy I ate a large whopping wild blizzard everyday and ate like a cow - drank sugar soda. Gee how else would I get to be over 350 lbs.... This pregnancy I eat a couple pieces of candy here and there , no ice cream cause I'm now lactose intolerant...if I drink soda its diet. I eat fruit and veggies now and eat less definately. I also agree she doesn't know her ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to wls patients...I'm just gonna call and ask my wls surgeon. Guest guest
That's odd... I hadn't heard that... prior to my wls, I was a very brittle diabetic for nearly 12 years, on insulin and three differnet oral drugs. If anyone should have/should be likely to have gestational diabetes it is me, and at 31 weeks, my sugars are the best they have ever been in my life! LOL!! Wonder where she got her information? I'd sure ask!!! I'd honestly like to know, myself! :~) Sharon > Hi All, > When I went to see the specialist last week she said that I would be more likely to have gestational diabetes now that I have had WLS than when I was 350 and pregnant.
