Hm, never knew you couldn't use vapor rub on babies! LOL! Glad I didn't

accidently maim Everett! I took an old bib I didn't mind to ruin and put a wad

of rub on it, then tied it to him like normal so the vabors would rise up to his

nose. Beyond that, I guess just some saline nose drops and a good old fashioned

booger-sucker. To do that I have to wrap him (swaddle) real tight in a blanket

so his hands and feet cannot move - he totally hates the sucker. Might try

turning on the hot water in your shower and steaming the room real good for him

to loosen it up some, too. Who said the vapor rub was harmful? I still use

it. I'll put a dab under his nose a lot of times now.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY?

Just a quick non related question my son bcf 23\7 he has a

really bad head and chest cold and i was just wondering if anyone

could tell me why babies cant use vapo rub he's 4 months old and is

very congested. Does anyone know why or have another suggestion of

what to do?

Thanks in advance

They now have VICKS Vapor Rub for babies (PINK LABEL) !! I found some at

Target, the regular jar is for babies/adults 2 years and older, because its

too strong for the little ones.

Good Luck!

well if it's just a skin issue, don't put it on the skin, just on a rag around

their throat maybe? Good luck, hope he feels better.

One of the pediatricians in the practice we go to told me not to use it

on Kelsey either but I did. I used the and Vapor cream

for babies. There is also a Vapor bath that you can put in bath water

and it helps to open them up. It would help her when nothing else

would. I would also use a vaporizer in her room that puts out warm mist

instead of the cool mist many doctors recommend. The cool mist always

seemed to make my kids sicker. Also, the saline nose drops and

aspirator worked well for us with Kelsey. We would do that to get her

nose clear and then we would put her to bed in the room with the

vaporizer. Also, sometimes elevating the babies head helps them to

breathe as well. TO do this, just wedge a pillow or something under the

crib mattress at the head.

Good luck.

I love the Vicks Baby Rub. I am using it now on both the girls. Very

bad coughs/colds/ear infections. Sure, I am enjoying my nights..LOL

Seriously...the regular Vicks is known to have burnt/break the skin

it's too strong for them. If that is all you have definitly wouldn't

put it directly on the skin.

Jen,

I have never used the vapo rub just because my husband can't stand the smell of

it. But, when Rose is really congested, I put her in a warm bath for quite a

while, maybe an hour. With a 4 month old. I would get in the tub too. After a

while, the snot breaks free and you can wipe it away. Or else use the booger

sucker. Rose hates it too. I got a different one last year at the store that

she didn't mind so much. It has a smooth clear plastic tip that is much less

hard on little noses. I didn't want to use the booger sucker either, but Rose

was about that age and really sick and I called " ask a nurse " . She explained

the proper use ( 2 saline drops, then suck) and said that Rose would strenously

resist. But I did it and it worked. Since then I havn't let it get that bad

and do the really steamy bath much more often.

I think it may just be that if they somehow get it in their eyes or

mouths, it could be harmful. Pretty tough to tell a 4 month old not

to eat the stuff ~ LOL! I think that the usual recommendation is a

cool mist humidifier in his room.

Hope this helps,

What I have done is to spread the Vicks on my own chest and then have Jonah lay

on my chest--being careful to not let him get his face in the stuff. It seems

like I get stuffy whenever my kids do anyway, so we all benefit...

My husband is bothered some by the smell, but I find it somewhat comforting.

Raising the end of the bed a little has helped sometimes. Jonah is very prone

to wheezing and the humidifier(or letting the bathroom fill with steam and

sitting in that with him)helps tremendously.

Hope you are all feeling better...

There's a vapor cream that isn't as concentrated that I've used

before. My pediatrician didn't say I couldn't use it, she just said

not to use too much of it.
