ita,

My OB told me that I HAD to do it! But, she let me do jelly beans because it

was a little less sugar and she said other RNY patients of her did better with

it. I had to do 28 jelly beans " brochs brand " in 5 minutes. I was sick for an

hour after but I figured that I was worth it to make sure that baby and I

were healthy. I practiced once at home before the day of the test just to make

sure I could handle it.

My OB totally understood that I couldn't do the test, and had me do a 2 hour

fasting blood sugar. She is also one of the doctors that wrote a medically

necessary letter for me to have the WLS... I really have a great bunch of

doctors here!

I have told my doctors ahead of time that i refuse and they were quite

understanding and said we could try testing my sugars thru a blood pick in the

finger for awhile. it will satrt I think at my next appt. I also know there is

fasting that can be done and then go eat something and then test your sugars

after

you eat and see where they are. There is a way to do this without taking the

glucose crap.

the jelly bean test has the exact same amount of sugar

as the glucola does.

doesn't matter whether you are doing jelly beans, juice,

glucola...the whole point is that you're getting the same

amount of sugar (that's why it's measured so carefully)

as for the original subject question: yep. lots of people

have refused the GTT....and there's nothing that you

HAVE to do while pregnant. There may be things that

your care provider push you to do...but nothing is

required - NOTHING.

Robin,

I was given a fasting gluecose test. I fasted 8 hours (overnight), came to the

Ob's office and got my blood taken. I was then told to get something to eat and

come back in 1 hour, to be tested again. That really worked great for me.
