Guest guest
Keri, I just kept shaking my head in agreement as I read the end of your post. I'm glad that your son's feet are healing and that he's doing so much better in the shoes. As for you question - YES, we did wear the brace full time for longer than 3 mos. was not weight bearing at all and has atypical cf so it was prudent to do so. When she started moving around more we slowly started decreasing her time in the shoes and by the end of November we hope to be able to go down to just night and naps. And as far as the clothing thing goes - I can understand and I've been where you are. Still am in some ways as we have to handle clothing issues with a g-tube as well and that doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. Hang in there - get creative and try some 'stretchy' pants that don't have snaps. You'll be surprised at how far down those things can go for diaper changes even with the bar on. Amusingly, I miss the bar sometimes when changing her diaper because it made such a nice handle! LOL Chris healing heel sore and question I haven't posted in over a week. My son's heel is healing nicely. He no longer minds wearing his dbb, in fact he is back to his happy self. We had to leave the brace off for a few days...which made me so nervous. We met with the pt on Monday and she said that the foot still looks great...very loose. Also, we had the plastezoid (spelling) inserts removed from the markells. What a difference. My son's feet don't slip out of the shoes and he is so much more comfortable. I have a question. Most of you have had your children wear the dbb for 3 months 23/7. My doctor says that it will be at least 3 months, more likely 4 months. He said Jordan needs to be in the dbb 23/7 until he is bearing weight on his feet. We will do what we have to do but has anyone elses kids had to wear the dbb 23/7 for more than 3 months (not including relapses)? I know that in the long run that the longer his feet are held in the corrected position the better, but I want him to be able to move around freely during the day and I am so looking forward to him wearing the rest of his clothes that he can't wear now because they don't have snaps up the legs. keri Jordan 8/19/04 rcf (i can almost hit myself in the head with this bar.....mommy better go buy padding this weekend!!) Guest guest
Every time a parent has asked Dr. Ponseti about this he says it only needs to be 3 mo. This has come up a number of times on the list, and the general consensus is that no one knows when baby will start to bear weight, and waiting for that milestone could mean a long time 23/7. For your own peace of mind, you should email Dr. Ponseti and confirm. Send him pictures of Jordan's feet front and back weight bearing (hold him up), the soles of his feet and one of the profile with you dorsiflexing the foot as far as it'll go. He'll tell you what is best for Jordan in this case. So glad his sore is healing - the inserts were part of our problem too but only because her heel wasn't down. I am not convinced the new style shoes still need the inserts. Once we got the new shoes with the enlarged heel pocket and ankle padding without the inserts she was fine so we've never used them again and won't. But they're still putting them in at the U of Iowa (according to , the orthotist there) and feel they're still necessary. There are also some parents here who tried the shoes without them and had problems with slipping and the inserts then solved the problem. I think it's an individual thing and most do fine without them but some don't. I hated the darn things personally... Kori At 07:21 AM 11/11/2004, you wrote: >I haven't posted in over a week. Guest guest
Would you please descibe weight bearing. My son is now 6 months and started bracing 23/7 for 1 week. How i judge weight bearing. Please also provide some information regarding the use of infant wheel walkers. But my doctor here in Pakistan didn't allow yet. Regards Shahid. --- chris@...> wrote: > Keri, > I just kept shaking my head in agreement as I read > the end of your post.
