Guest guest
My regular u/s showed club feet, pretty noticible, but they ordered a Level II u/s as well - it wasn't anything complicated or special - I mean just one technician did it, no specialist came in - but she did do lots of measurements and zoomed in on all the critical areas. s. Tina, A level 2 ultrasound is a " pointed " ultrasound conducted with a perinatologist. They do a more in-depth ultrasound (it's not 3-D or anything though) and will look specifically for clubfoot and will check a lot more things than a typical/routine ultrasound. I have had level 2 ultrasounds for my subsequent pregnancies since was born w/ clubfoot. The way they do it at my hospital is the normal ultrasound technician will come in and do all the regular scanning, then when he/she is done, they call in the perinatologist, who comes in and personally finishes the ultrasound, looking for the indicators in question. Congrats on your pregnancy! Hope this helps! & (3-16-00), left clubfoot also- brother Aidan (1-11-03- no clubfoot) and EDD #3 (4-14-05) (it's a girl- no clubfoot diagnosed so far via ultrasound) > > Hi ! Guest guest
We had a level 2 u/s with on. I didn't realize that's what we had, they just automatically gave it to us because we didn't do the AFP test or anything else they suggested (prenatal-testing-wise, that is) It was at the hospital, just the one tech did it, and it took a loooonnnnggg time. When they asked us if we wanted a level 2 with Ava, we said no, a " regular " would be fine. We didn't want to know the sex, so they didn't really go to the " bottom half " . They just got the measurements of the head/heart/spine/etc. Although, now that I'm thinking about it, they do take a measurement of the big thigh bone, I think it helps with dating or something. But that still doesn't mean anything, I was only 18 wks when we had it, so her CF may not have developed yet. Anyway, I personally am kind of glad we didn't find out until she was born. In a way, I wonder if I was to get pg again if I would even want them to look for CF. I might just want to wait until the baby was born. There's nothing you can do anyway! But I see how it would set your mind at rest to know. Although, it's kind of like finding out the sex--and I never did that either! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > > > > Hi ! I completely understand how you feel. Guest guest
Personally, knowing my personality, if I had not known about the clubfoot ahead of time and had time to research it, I would have been hysterical when she was born and I saw that foot. I would have totally obsessed about it and I have no doubt that it would have ruined her birth for me. I currently have no plans to have another child but if I did, I usually have to have the level 2 ultrasounds anyway but I definitely would want them to look for the CF. Although if it were to be a surprise at birth, I would be fine since I know what I am dealing with but I am terribly obsessive about the unknown quantities. I guess that is also why I did find out the sex before birth with both of my girls. I would not have an amnio to find out however. I am a really high risk for miscarraiage so anything invasive is just not a consideration for us. Jenni wrote: >We had a level 2 u/s with on. Guest guest
Hi Jenni! That is exactly why I want to know ahead of time...we apparently have the same personality!! I know that knowing ahead of time will not change anything but I am just the sort of person who wants to know everything!! When I was pregnant with Ethan we had like 5 ultrasounds to try and see the sex and we never could and it drove me absolutely insane!! With Dylan, we knew he was a boy, had the shower and his room was done completely in fire trucks two months before he got here. With Ethan though, his room was bare except for the crib and his dresser. His clubfoot didn't ruin his birth for me but I did freak out. He wasn't breathing because he had swallowed meconium and was rushed out of my room before I could even hold him. I saw him from across the room and was like " what's wrong with his feet? " They didn't really tell me til a few hours later that he had clubfoot and I knew nothing about it. Anyway, sorry to make this so long, I really appreciate your support!! Guest guest
Tina, I just had to comment - we both had babies in March 04, and are now both due again in May 05. How funny!!!! During my ultrasound, the doc said the baby would have to be in just the right position for them to determine if there was clubfoot present... and of course the baby wasn't in the right position, although SHE (we're having a girl!) was moving around a lot. I was curious to see the feet, but I too am not that worried. IF she has clubfeet, we know what to do and where to bring her - it would not be half as traumatic as hearing it for the first time! Guest guest
Thank you so much for all that information ! It sets my mind at ease to hear that your son doesn't have clubfoot and that your daughter so far has no signs of it. As I said before, it doesn't matter to me if this baby has it, I just don't do so well with surprises and this baby is enough of a surprise as we thought we were done!! Guest guest
I am so obsessive about some things...I have a lot of respect for people who can wait til their babies are born to know what they are!! I can barely wait til 18 wks!!
Guest guest
Hi Darby!! That is too funny!! I hope your baby was a little more planned than mine was I wanted Ethan to be the baby for a while and we really weren't planning on having any more. I am in the same boat you are...I don't care if this baby does have clubfoot (we don't know the sex yet but we should find out 1-3) but it would help me personally to know. My husband is kinda having a hard time with it because it runs on his side of the family and no matter how many times I say it isn't his fault, you know men, he doesn't listen!! Congratulations on your baby girl (I hope mine is too!) Tina Dylan 3-21-00 Ethan 3-06-04 bcf s 15/7 #3 EDD 5-25-
Guest guest
No, the new baby was definately not planned - but of course, she is welcome (it just took a little getting used to)!!!! So tired of chasing the baby! Livi is getting to be a very fast crawler and cruiser, despite her club feet which hasn't slowed her down a bit. I have been over my morning sickness for over a month and I'm still losing weight - I'm sure it's becuase I'm chasing her around! Can't wait until she learns the command " Hey you, come back here! " The chances of having 2 kids with CF are pretty darn small - and it's more prevalent in boys, so if you end up having a girl, I suppose your chances would be even less... Good luck! Keep us updated on what you find out! Darby Livi 3/15/04 bcf dbb 12/7 EDD #2 5/12/05 > > Hi Darby!! That is too funny!! Guest guest
I was in complete shock when I found out about this one! I took Ethan to the pedi because he was so cranky I didn't know what else to do with him. It used to be if he got a little fussy I would nurse him and he was happy as could be but he wouldn't even nurse and he had never had formula before so I was at a total loss! It was the Dr who suggested that I take a pg test since apparently that can change your milk sometimes. It took a few weeks for the news to settle then I was absolutely ecstatic!! Fortunately I never had morning sickness with any of my pregnancies (this is actually my 5th pg) but I hear you, chasing a crusin' 9 mo old when pg is a lot of work!!! Thank you for all your support and I will let you all know what the Dr says after my US on the 3rd!! Tina Dylan 3-21-00 Ethan 3-06-04 bcf s 15/7 #3 EDD 5-25-05 > > > > Hi Darby!! That is too funny!!
