Guest guest
Good morning, I remember when Lhea (my 6 month old, bilateral clubbed feet) was being treated here at home (CHICAGO), her doctor would manipulate her feet prior to casting. Then when her casts were off, after her surgery and everything, we would have to manipulate (massage but extending outward) for at least 15 mintues several times a day. I am not sure how this will work for your child but you can try that and I would highly suggest you contact Dr. Ponseti at the University of Iowa. aussymumof2 aussymumof2@...> wrote: Hello all this is my first time here. I have a son who is 2 and a half, born with clubfoot, he has had the casts, AFO's, Acillies tendon extension surgery but his feet seem to still be affecting himand the way he is walking (trips himself alot) and i have spoken to our doctor but he seems to think that his feet are ok because the joint is not tight anymore and that it is now up to cody (my son) to learn to correct his feet. i have been told by my mother in-law that takeing him to massage therapy me help...anyone who has had sucess with massage please let me know! I am worried that Cody is use to the way his feet are and he isnt going to correct them. Would like to hear any ideas as what i should do. Thanks Guys! Guest guest
Hi there and welcome to the group! I have to say that I believe that whenever the 'mom' feels that something is not quite right, chances are, she is right! After all, who knows your child more than you do? I don't have any personal experience with AFO's but to my knowledge (what I've learned here and across the web), AFO's are not successful in preventing relapse. Perhaps some other parents here who have experience with AFO's can give you some better insight. If at all possible, I would suggest taking your son to another doctor for a second opinion. From your screen name, I'm assuming that you're in Australia. There are 3 doctors in Australia listed on Dr. Ponseti's site who use The Ponseti (non-surgical) Method of treatment. Perhaps one of them is close enough to where you live and you could get in to see them. Here is the list: Bellemore, M.D. Suite 3, Ground Floor Children's Hospital Centre Hainsworth Street Westmead, NSW 2145, Australia Tel: (02) 9893-7394 Haemish Crawford, M.D. Starship Children's Hospital Private Bag 92024 Aukland, New Zealand Tel: 09-379-7440 Email Dr. Crawford Ponseti Club Foot Clinic Monash Medical Centre, Clinic- B Clayton, Melbourne Tel: 9594 6666 Email Dr. Patel Hope this helps! Take care and keep us posted! Daiga and Owen, 02/04/03 Unilateral LCF, FAB 14/24 > > > Hello all this is my first time here. Guest guest
Aw poor Cody. He isn't going to correct his feet that I'm aware of. This sounds very much like my oldest son who went through casting then AFO's. He could hardly walk either and ended up having Dr. Ponseti's ATTT operation to correct his feet because he was too old by then to do the traditional casting to correct him. Each child is different, your child may not be too old for casting if you found the right doctor. Good luck! s. Not Sure what to do...am i being ignored? Hello all this is my first time here. Guest guest
When you say his feet are affecting the way he walks, what do you mean? Do his feet look straight? Or do they still looked curved? I only ask because I have a son who is 2 and a half also, without club feet, and he's falling CONSTANTLY! If it's just the tripping that's worrying you, but his feet otherwise seem okay, then that's probably normal!! Those goofy boys just are always getting ahead of themselves & falling all over I think! But if you're still worried, I would definitely seek a 2nd opinion. , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > > > Hello all this is my first time here. Guest guest
Hello, I don't know much about this but messaging may help. The French method of correcting clubfoot is actually massaging and splinting. When I was in the NICU a 2yr old came to visit the nurses and they brought her over to show me her feet. They were corrected by the French method and they looked great. Again, corrected by massaging and splinting. I certainly don't think it can hurt. Guest guest
Christie, I would definitely seek another opinion then, if I were you. Remember, " top " is a subjective term. Just because he's the " top " OS in Australia doesn't mean he knows everything! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > > > > > > Hello all this is my first time here.
