not walking yet

My son Mo was born with bi cf. He's now 17 months and not walking yet

without suport. He cruises beautifully and walks all over with a

walker or holding my hands. But he won't walk if he's not holding on

to anything. he also doesn't stand yet without support. We were by our

ortho. 3 weeks ago and he said he has loose ligaments which will

tighten over time. Our physical therapist thinks he's strong enough

to walk and doesn't understand why he isn't. The pt just put him in

real shoes during the day, thinking it may give him more support that

he needs.

Anyone have this? AS a clubfoot mom, you all probably understand, all

you want is to see your child walking, and I'm getting a little

anxious. Any advice ?

There is a poll in the polls section that has the responses to when

people's clubfoot kids started walking- and I think there's one for

non-clubfoot siblings too. I know lots of non-clubfoot kids who

weren't walking at 17-24 mo old....then just started doing it. Try

not to worry about it. If he's cruising and walking with a walker or

holding onto hands, then it sounds like he's just fine....just not

ready to venture out unassisted yet!

I know the fact that he has CF makes you extra nervous (we all can

relate to that), but I'm guessing that soon enough he'll decide to

start walking alone and then you'll be chasing him all over! I hope

the numbers in the polls help give you some reassurance that Mo is

just a late walker and nothing " physical " is wrong.

Hugs to you!
