Guest guest
I just caught the last few messages regarding this topic and havnt had time to read all the rest. I recently came across another yahoo group for my local area that was founded based on the 'gift of giving'. If you go to www.freecycle.org, you can read the story behind it and also sign up for a group in your area. Basically, you post a message for what you have to offer. People email you privately and as the 'giver' you decide who your stuff goes to. Some people choose recipients w/ the greatest need. Others choose based on the most entertaining story for why the potential recipient needs or wants the item. No money is ever exchanged. Personally, Ive had THE BEST experiences I could hope for with this group. I offered a few of my daughters winter jackets and just so happened to find someone that was offering a BabyGap fleece hooded onesie w/ the snappy crotch to help w/ Elijah's brace. We agreed to meet and exchange the items. I also got our cat from someone that offered him on the Freecycle yahoo group. Since then, Ive met alot of nice people that had a legitimate need for the odds and ends around my house that I needed to get rid of.... a wooden potty chair, snow chains etc... My suggestion is, if you have something to offer, just post what it is and have the potential recipient contact you directly by email to keep the freecycling messages to a minimum on the group. The owner can then decide for themselves who they want to have it based on their own reasons that they shouldnt have to explain to anyone else. Then the two parties can decide on who will cover shipping of the item. Just my 2 cents, forgive me if Im out of line. It just seemed to me by the last few posts on the issue that the matter is getting entirely more complicated than it needs to me. Lori and Elijah 9 months old, atypical RCF DBB 23/7.. soon to decrease - YAY Elijah!!!
