Bess,

I'm glad everything is going well for Audrey!

This used to be a common topic on the list, but hasn't been brought

up in ages! Yes, it's common for the kids' feet to turn out when

they first start walking. I used to refer to 's feet

as " Charlie Chaplin feet " . I was assured by Dr. P that they would

eventually turn in and be " normal " ...and yes, they did. It was so

gradual though, that I couldn't even tell you when they started

pointing straight ahead instead of looking over-corrected. Be

assured that they will look and function perfectly fine in time. The

only thing that a parent of a uni-lateral child might want to watch

for is for the ankle area of the " good foot " to roll inward toward

the floor when the child is standing. In this case, the outward

rotation of the shoe of the non-clubfoot should probably be reduced

to 25 degrees or even 0 degrees. (this happened with my daughter)

I have pictures of 's feet at different stages birth through age

4 on her website if you want to see how they changed through the

years.

Bess-

TOTALLY NORMAL! The feet are suppose to be somewhat overcorrected. It will

go away after several months of walking steadily. If it stays overcorrected

for along time after they walk the doc will rotate the shoes in 5-10

degrees. I know because this was the same with my son. Don't worry.

Bess,

Jonah, 16 months, does exactly the same thing your daughter does. When he

crawls, his feet still point out to the sides--I sent a picture of this to

CFPICS a couple of months ago. When he stands, he looks like he's practicing

ballet. When he walks, his little feet are turned out. I think it's sort of

cute--although I might not if someone told me he'd always walk this way...

Let us know when your little one starts walking!

My daughter Audrey is just about 13 months old and has bilateral

clubfoot. She is crawling everywhere and has recently started pulling

herself up to a standing position. She wears the brace 12 hours/day now

(just reduced from 14) and can do both of these with the brace on or

off. I have noticed that when she stands without the brace on, her feet

(one more so than the other) turn out to the side, as if she is still in

the brace. Additionally, when she crawls, this same foot is not faced down

towards the floor but instead, out to the side. Does this sound normal?

Will she gradually move her feet in once she starts walking? I'm a little

worried...any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Bess
