Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am in misery here. I've had diarrhea for almost a week now. This last month I had a bout of bronchitis, then I had a touch of a flu bug that hubby had. He got much sicker than I did with it though. That only lasted a weekend. I saw my OB for a regular checkup last Thursday. I've lost 5lbs. (in the last 2 weeks), which brings my total pregnancy weight gain down to 10 lbs. so far. The baby is doing fine and growing right on schedule, so no worries in that department. My big concern right now is the diarrhea. I'm pretty sure it started last Monday or so, and it has not let up one bit. I feel like I cannot stay hydrated no matter how much water I drink. I am awake literally all night long, because as soon as I lie back down, I have to run to the bathroom again. I am also cold all the time. It's like I cannot get warm, and my muscles ache from shivering all night. No one else in my house feels sick or cold. I keep my house pretty warm. I have been vomiting the last couple of nights, but I'm not sure if it's related to the diarrhea or not. I am trying to decide if I should call my OB's office or go to the ER later tonight (when hubby gets home from work) or what. I've heard that having long bouts of diarrhea and being pregnant are not a good combo, but this is my first pregnancy so I'm not sure when to say enough is enough. I'm just so exhausted from lack of sleep and feeling like this that I don't feel like I'm thinking clearly. Any advice? Thanks, Shari in KS
Guest guest
Sounds like you have the stomach flu. You should try to drink some gingerale (flat). The kids doc swears by the BRAT diet whenever they get it and I have used it for myself and that is B- bananas, R- rice, A- Apple juice (in small amounts) T- toast. It sure has helped us in the past. It would not hurt to call your OB and talk to them about it too. Maybe you could take something over the counter for the diarrhea. I hope you feel better soon so you can get your rest. Guest guest
Have you tried taking some imodium? Sometimes when diarrhea starts its hard to stop the cycle. I think you may definately have the flu...but try the imodium pills or liquid. Also watch your sugars because sugar can make diarrhea worse. Crackers, toast, rice...go for the white diet as our doctor calls it. Anything that will bind you up. Also check in with your ob your hmo is paying for someone to be on call it cannot be good for you to have been ill this long. Chrystal Wife to Jace - together 6 Years! Happy Mommy to - 4 Years Old! Guest guest
Shari, I just went through this same thing, there is something going around and it struck me hard. I'm gonna say the same thing, call your Dr. Try immodium, and the BRAT diet does work. My midwives said to drink gatorade watered down or pedilite which is the same thing, less sugar. With our digestive systems not being the same, it can get us dehydrated very fast, and that isn't good. Concentrate on getting in the liquids in some form other than water without too much sugar. Good luck to you, I'm just over it and it really wiped me out. Jenn
