Hi Silvia and Marco,

Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your daughter. There is a Ponseti

trained doctor in Rome whom I believe has over 10 years experience with the

method. He can be reached at the following info:

Professor Ernesto Ippolito

Universita degli Studi di Roma " Tor Vergata "

Dipartimento di Chirurgia

V.le Montpellier, 1

00133 Roma - Italy

Tel: +390620902885

Fax: +390620902886

Email Dr. Ippolito: Ippolito@...

or

Email Dr. Ippolito : E.Ippolito@...

When we were in Iowa we met another doctor who was also from Italy and

training under Dr. Ponseti so it's possible there may be other Italian

doctors now qualified in the method. You could contact Dr. Ponseti himself

and he would gladly give you more information. He answers e-mails and

returns phone calls very quickly.

Best of luck,

Dan &

Silvia and Marco,

Actually, one of the earliest doctors to adopt the Ponseti method (or

at least a slightly modified version of it) was:

Dr. Enersto Ippolito of Rome, Dr. Ippolito is currently the

president of the Italian Pediatric Orthopedic Society

http://www.siot.it/sitop/

and chairman of the scientific committee of the European Pediatric

Orthopedic Society.

http://www.epos.efort.org/epos/public/3_Committees/Committees.asp

He is listed on Dr. Ponseti's list of qualified doctors in the method.

Professor Ernesto Ippolito

Universita degli Studi di Roma " Tor Vergata "

Dipartimento di Chirurgia

V.le Montpellier, 1

00133 Roma - Italy

Tel: +390620902885

Fax: +390620902886

Email Dr. Ippolito Ippolito @ med.uniroma2.it

or

Email Dr. Ippolito E.Ippolito @ mclink.it

Dr. Ippolito and Dr. Ponseti have done a number of papers together

including a study of fetal clubfoot tissue in 1980 at

http://www.ejbjs.org/cgi/content/abstract/62/1/8

Dr. Ippolitto recently published the results of 19 years of using the

Ponseti method in Italy in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. It

appears from the study, that part of the Ponseti method children

treated also recieved portions of a posterior release as well. My

assumption is that was what he did 19 years ago and that he is

following the method more closely now.

Abstract of paper by E. Ippolito, P. Farsetti, R. Caterini, and C.

Tudisco, performed at the Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of

Rome, Rome, Italy. " Long-Term Comparative Results in Patients with

Congenital Clubfoot Treated with Two Different Protocols " . One group

used the Ponseti method with limited posterior ankle release. JBJS

(AM) 85: 1286-1294 (2003).

There are also a few Ponseti method parents in Italy on the internet

who may answer you.

Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in Italy. We're here.

Ridley is now 20 months old and uses the DBB and followed the Ponseti

method, eventually.

I didn't managed to get in touch with the Dr mentioned so have no experience

but l Know he comes recommended. Trying Dr Ponseti himself may be good

advice as the doctor had moved from the hospital and they couldn't give me

any follow on information. But this was May /June 2003.

Ridley was born in Feb I guess this means you found out from the scan?

All the best,

Melitsa & Ridley.

Little miracles happen everyday.
