If its only when needed, how long does it take to kick in? It is fine to take the Benefiber on a daily basis. As a matter of fact, they told me to take it daily when I originally had bad constipation problems. Lucky for me, I have become a little more regular....so I only take it when I go 2-3 days between. Actually, even if you are not irregular it's my understanding that extra fiber supplementation is a good thing for you. As far as how long it takes to work, if you are in the throws of a constipation bout, I probably would take it 2-3 times the first day. After you're going regularly, titrate down and see how much it takes to keep you regular. One dose per day usually does me just fine unless I've had a particularly bad spell. Also, have you tried Colace?? For me this works generally overnight. It's on the " safe list " of drugs my doctor gave me at my last OB visit. I don't take it often anymore because the Benefiber works so well....but it's also an option.
