It took me 18mos after coming off of Depo (and doing fertility treatments to

shock my body back into " life) to get pg with my DS! I was shocked as our

first two were huge surprises that were 11mos apart in age! Took us 18 months

for Hunter and we found out we're expecting again in September.. TOTAL SHOCK!

Question: HOw long did you use Depo before trying to go off of it to get

pregnant? That may be important to know. I wonder because I am only doing

one cycle of Depo (gaining too much on it) and am going to have to do

something else to prevent for the next few months. Anyway, how long were you

guys on it before going off to try?

Between my first and second pregnancies (both of which were before

surgery) I did Depo for 1 year. Then after hearing how some women

have problems concieving I stopped. I wanted to do the pill since my

first daughter was only a little over a year old, but my husband

feared any birth control would cause problems concieving down the

road (BIG MISTAKE!). I concieved about month after stopping Depo. I

was extrememly fertile before surgery, now I am even more so

(considering it took less then a month to concieve this baby that I

am pregnant with). So it really depends on how fertile were you

before and how long were you on Depo for ( the longer you are on the

longer it takes for your body to get back into synch). Give it about

six months and unless you had fertility problems before you should be

heading in the right direction.

Tammy,

I asked the same question as I also am on Depo and am ready to ttc.

There didnt seem to be anyone on Depo with this surgery but me! Now

there is you. It looks like you have been off the shot longer than I

have. How long did it take you to get your period back? I started

out at 254 and today and at 144 at 14 months. I lost donw to 138n

but gained 7 pounds this month.

I took my last shot in December so it will be out of my system at the

end of this month and my docs told me hopefully a couple of months

before I start having a period again. I am still hoping for sooner

but really cant do anything about that can I!!!

So again, when did you stop Depo and when did you get your period

back?

Ok, I didn't want to answer this, as my answer is kinda negative.

This was pre-wls, but when I was on depo, I was on it two different

times, and each time I went off, I got pregnant at my one year

anniversary of going off it. Both times I miscarried at 8 weeks.

Not sure if it was due to the depo or not, but it seemed like a

little more than coincidense.

I won't be able to help you much because my DH and I used the only form of

birth control that works every time it's tried. We abstained for one year

following my surgery. It was a mutual choice; wasn't easy but it was sure

worth it in the end because the VERY first time we, well, you know... we

conceived my son who's now 4.5 years old.

Anyway, I know that the vast majority of folks aren't willing to go there,

so I don't usually jump in on contraception issues. We aren't Catholics, but

my DH and I have pretty strong personal convictions about contraception, so

for us, it was the only way we could comply with my surgeon's instructions

and keep a clear conscience as well. It isn't for everyone! But it certainly

worked for us.

I *am* curious as to the efficacy of the Patch versus oral BCPs versus Depo,

etc... if only for the sake of making sure that our group has the very best

information available to its members.
