Guest guest
a, I think that you do the best that you can for your family. I may be in the minority here but I don't believe that always means that you have to take your child to Iowa. What about the Doctors in Austin that takes Aidan to. She seems pretty happy with them. Perhaps they would be an option. I sympathize with the lack of FMLA etc. That happened with me when I got pregnant with and was having lots of problems. That sped up my choice to be a SAHM because my job was not cooperative. Hang in there and don't beat yourself up for things that are out of your control. We all have to do the best we can with the hand that we have been dealt. It sounds to me like you are doing just that. It's incredible that Ponseti is THAT good and finding cf treatment elsewhere is THAT bad. s. Re: Re: sores w/ DBB // allison > > > > > > We too are in healing casts. Guest guest
a - I understand you are between a rock and a hard place, but I swear it'll be OK. What those of us here know that others don't (until they experience it first hand) is that Dr. Ponseti is a a vessel of the Lord. I'm not a big bible thumper and I would have rolled my eyes at that statement had I heard it prior to seeing him but you cannot see Dr. Ponseti and come away with any other impression....I swear I go in to his clinic and feel like I'm entering a church only because I feel so at peace there, so secure and loved and safe and you just KNOW that your baby will be OK......and because of all that, I can make my little promise that it would, in the end, SOME HOW, be OK if you took the time from work and traveled to see him. Maybe losing your job would be a blessing in disguise, who knows? I'm not saying quit - Im just trying to stress my belief that right now your #1 priority is to get you baby the care he needs because he's not getting it now. The rest can take care of itself later, but his feet cannot be delayed after this many months of improper treatment - he's headed for a disaster and I can say that cuz I went through it with my own kid. There is a window of opportunity your child has and after this age your window is shutting! There is a program called Angel Flights, very helpful in providing transportation for kids who need far away doctors. There is the Mc House to stay in once you arrive. Probaby stay in Iowa City for a few weeks, then finish out from home with just a few follow up appts. at first, then they become annual. There is a Ponseti doctor at a Shriner's too - help me out here guys, where is that? No matter where it is exactly, but the point is he needs your attention asap. Go look through the photo links and stuff here, you'll see with your own two eyes the difference in treatments compared to what you have now. If that won't convince you to pull the rug out from under your life to get the right help nothing will. s. Re: Re: sores w/ DBB // allison > > > > > > > > > We too are in healing casts. Guest guest
You are difinitely in a difficult sittuation. I was frantic when I knew in my heart that Iowa was the only logical place to take Kai. We had to borrow money from my dad because Angel Flights would not go as far as we needed (Seattle to Iowa) and had to rely heavily on family to help with the other kids, but we did it. Honestly, if you are dealing with unusual cavus, there are only a handful of doctors that are suggested. There may be one closer to you than Iowa. (searching for Dr P's e-mail that has the info .... ) Okay, here is the confirmed US list: Dr Ponseti, Iowa City, Iowa Dr Mosca, Seattle, Washington Dr Colburn, California (dont remember the city) Dr Herzenberg, (help here, I dont remember!) Dr Dobbs (again, dont remember!) There may be more than that, but that is the confirmed list I have from Dr Ponseti as of July for doctors that are able to correct a foot that is atypical in any way or that has responded badly to previous casting. These are also the doctors that have proven track records with " older " children. Angel Re: Re: Pregnant with twins ok here i go spilling my guts. i know that logan's dr is not ponseti certified but i am having a hard enough time arranging going to Houston every Monday. Guest guest
Thanks you pretty much put it in a nut shell. I know what i have to do now. Just getting it done will take a little time. Since my DH can not go will they let my mom fly with me at no cost? Just wondering i have never flown before and just a little scared about the whole process. a Logan 07/12/04 bicf serial casting Number23 number23@...> wrote: a - I understand you are between a rock and a hard place, but I swear it'll be OK. Guest guest
a, Being scared is OK. You can go to Angelflights.com (I think, if not do a search for Angel Flights) and they can give you the most local group to you - then call them up and go from there. They might let your mother go, I'm not sure - I would hope so. Try to let them know you really need her to help you. Can you send digital pictures? Maybe have your 35mm film put on a disc or something and forward some photos of your child's feet to Dr. Ponseti to look at. People on here do it all the time. I did it four years ago myself. He's so sweet to look at all the photos we send and respond with his opinion. That would be a good starting point, also. If he thought they could be fixed rather simply he may refer you to a dr. closer to home, if he thinks they look atypical or otherwise a tough case he may suggest you come straight to Iowa. Start by talking to him, talking to Angel Flights, taking to yourself, your mom, your coworkers, and to God and soon you'll get it all falling in to place. We're here for you. s. ---- Thanks you pretty much put it in a nut shell. I know what i have to do now. Just getting it done will take a little time. Guest guest
Logan's visit went ok yesterday. Talk to dr about the cavas and he said that he consults with on of dr. ponsite's helpers.? someone with the name starting with an M maybe. dont know. we did not get the MRI done. they messed up on the schudeling. it is now set for January 8th. i have to tell yall. when logan was waiting in the casting room another baby (7 weeks) came in for his first set of cast. the mom was crying just like i did when logan got his first, second, third. lol i know it is not funny but it does get better so i hear until you get into the shoes. anyway back to my point. this lady was just crying. me also.....feeling her pain inside. i didnt even know her and wanted to go up and give her a hug and tell her that her baby would be ok...........the husband did talk to me a little. i told him that it would be ok and just to be there for his wife because this is a very emontional time and alot of support is needed. Took pics of Logan's feet and will be emailing to dr. ponsetti tomorrow to see what we need to do. thanks for listening paula logan 07/12/04 bicf serial casting onemorebb tristan2@...> wrote: > Thanks you pretty much put it in a nut shell. Most of the patients I have flown with bring someone along with them. I was afraid of flying in small planes. I have flown many times in jets, but never in a four-seater. But the Angel Flight pilots I have met, and I've met quite a few since we had to go for weekly casting, are all very experienced and very cautious. If the weather is iffy they won't fly. Plus, if it's an Angel Flight the major airports along the way keep track of your location at all times. The pilots let you wear headphones so you can hear them talking and the control towers talking. You can also communicate with the pilots that way. One pilot told me that flying in a small plane has the same amount of risk as riding a motorcycle. That's not too bad really. The way I look at it is that if it means the difference between seeing a Ponseti doctor or not it's worth it to me to fly Angel Flight. Their website is www.angelflight.org and there's a place to click for the part of the country you live in. Good luck and keep us posted. I was in your same shoes, it was 4 days before 's scheduled surgery when I found this group. They convinced me to cancel the surgery and wait for the Ponseti doctor to see us. I have absolutely no regrets, especially when I look at my baby's perfect little feet. and 11/10/03 bilateral clubfeet dbb 23/
Guest guest
I understand about hearing the mom crying. That is the very thing that made me start this foundation. I wish I could be with every mom for at least every first casting..... No one really understands how it feels until you go through it.... www.pediatric-orthopedic-foundation.org
