Hi,

I have SAHM for almost 6 years -- starting with the surprise arrival

of tmy twins at 31 1/2 weeks gestation. I hope I don't EVER have to

go back to work!

I have two sons…6 years old and 10 ½ months old (Left CF). I was working 30

hours a week until my maternity leave. Now I work 1 and ½ days a week.

I have worked full time for both of my clubfoot babies. I just took the

Family Medical Leave when we had castings and and surgery. It was tough,

but we all managed!

, wow, your note brings so many responses to mind I don't know where to

begin! LOL! :) I " m thinking, 'UH, who says staying at home we don't WORK??? "

I'm kidding, not jumping your case - but wow, I wish I worked away from home

some days just for some rest. Obviously I'm a sahm but I do think that

depending on your occupation you could continue to work around the cf treatments

provided you have a loving, caring day care/baby sitter who can afford to give

your child a little extra time and comfort when needed. Initially with the

Ponseti Method the casts will change weekly for about five weeks, give or take a

week or two - but then the DBB is on and the casting is over. Done right, the

treatment is practically painless. It can cause some discomfort, some

frustration, but mostly I think it just bugs some kids worse than others to have

their legs casted or tied up in the DBB but if your care giver is free enough to

offer a little extra cuddling and is informed of the danger signs to look for

(purple toes, for example) then really it shouldn't be bad at all.

I envy all of you who can stay home and work. It has been difficult for me to

leave them. Not only do I work full time outside of my home, I also started a

non-profit for kids with orthopedic birth defects. My ultimate dream is to be

able to run the foundation full time.

that. I hope that you can run it fulltime some day also. Good Luck!

It's a huge trade off . We live very meagerly on one income that

trickles in from the little shop we have that's only been open two years - and

that we started off of nothing more than my unemployment checks when I got laid

off from my job a few months before Everett was born.......I debate returning to

work all the time. I miss having a regular and adequate income, I even miss the

social contact, but over the past couple years I've learned " adaquate " is one

of those really subjective terms. I'd like new towels but my old ones are

adequate. .....ha ha.....and an irregular feast or famine income just makes

one become a) very faithful and B) very creative. My dh said a while back that

I " m a good cook and I laughed cuz it's so not true, but he said, " Ya, but look

you can make a meal out of nothing! " LOL!

Your foundation sounds great and you're a special woman to be able to do that -

it's something I don't believe I could do.

I AGREE! SAHM is more work than an outside job. I have been at home for almost

two years now and my hubby is US Navy so it's hectic. I have a three year old

boy and now will have another boy with LCF; I guess I was looking for your

response to reassure me that it can be done being a SAHM. I have felt so guilty

at times for not working but am happy to raise my little boy and can not imagine

sending a newborn to a daycare here. Maybe if I were still in my hometown it

would be different because I would have family but here, I don't know anyone so

YES, I do want to stay at home with them. I thank you for your responses.

I stay at home with . He has hypogylcemia, in addition to his club feet,

and I can't imagine anyone else taking care of his feet or his blood sugars. My

husband and I decided that it is best if I stay at home and care for him since

both or our moms did the same.

I have 2 boys now, 2 (in 2 weeks) and 4 months. I work fulltime...(50+ hours a

week) and I love being able to do both! I will not lie, I am beat by the end of

the day but I feel fortunate that I can pursue my career while taking care of my

boys. Luckily, I work second shift so I get all morning and early afternoon

with my kids. They go to daycare for a few hours then my dh picks them up and

takes care of the night time rituals. My husband is a tremendous help. He does

half of all the household responsibilities as well as taking care of the kids.

Hi ! I am a sahm and have been since my oldest was 2. I do work

however, I run a daycare in my home and that allows me to contribute

as well. Now that we are expecting our third I know I will not go back

to work...daycare for 3 would be outrageous.

I did not work, but there really wasnt any reason I couldnt have that was

directly related to the CF. The casting should be finished durring your

postpartum time, and any good daycare would not have a problem dealing with the

DBB once they are taught how. My husband went to every casting and follow up

appointment except when I took Kai to Iowa, and he worked full time. Jobs are

usually very good about granting time off for medical realted things. I know it

seems very overwhelming - all that is involved - but it really isnt once you get

used to it.

Hi

I went back to work (part-time) when my little boy was 6 months. He was born

with bilateral c/f. He only went mornings to nursery and it was never an

issue with them AT ALL that he had his foot brace on. They used to take it

off for me at the appropriate time. They never had to put it on. He is now

in night times only now so it is even less of an issue. I am still part-time

as I don't want to leave him for too long and it has all worked out really

well, I was very worried about it all in the beginning. I think I can just

do more hours as he gets older. After all it is only a few years before they

are at school!!!!!!!!!!
