Oh that's rotten. Does your doctor have an answering service for emergency

contact? She's going to lose ground this week with no cast.

Cast has just come off!!

The cast on my two week old daughter has just slipped off, the

hospital says no one can put a new one on till next Thursday as all

are on holiday!! Is this OK, how will it effect the foot? Is there

any thing I can do ? Any experience out there?

you would rather have a cast that has slipped, completely off, than on

incorrectly. Just wait it out until they can get another one on.. Everything

will be fine...

She will lose ground, but better to lose ground than have someone

inexperienced do it and cause damage.

I would try the emergency service though. Our first doc was always

good about getting us in right away. Otherwise, enjoy her bear

tootsies and get back in it tuesday.

The foot will relapse with no cast on.

Is this your first or second cast? Did it come completely off? If

it has only slipped and not come off, TAKE IT OFF. It can cause

damage if it is not on right. If it has come off completely you have

two options.

1 - Just wait until Thursday and start over. You will probably loose

the correction you have gotten but sense she is only 2 weeks old you

probably haven't gotten much yet anyway.

2 – Fight to get a doctor called in for an emergency visit. My

doctor kick off two sets of cast the first was during her first week

and we waited until after the weekend to put on new ones. The second

time was at 8 weeks and the doctor came in on a Sunday to put a new

one on.

On a side note: We brought the cast that she kicked off to Dr

Ponseti and he did not feel that they were very well made cast and

said the most of the time when a cast is kicked off it is because it

was put on wrong. Just something you might want to keep an eye on.

Connor had a cast that slipped, only the once, and it was put on by someone

different that time. It caused the foot to relapse within 24 hours being in

the position that it was in inside the cast (kind of pointed downwards). We

got it casted the very next day and even I could see it wasn't good. Anyway

another week in casts and all was ok again!!

I would definitely cause a little stink first...even though they're

on holiday they CHOOSE to be doctors and sometimes that means

putting the patient first. But if they really can't or won't help

you, like everyone already said--enjoy the bare piggy toes for a few

days. Another week of casting will put it all right again!
