Well, I never thought it would happen to me. I read about it in

books and have heard other pregnant women tell stories of how so

many people told them don't do this and don't do that. Well, here I

am, ready to wring so many necks!! Friday, two co-workers were

yelling at me for stretching to reach a heavy folder on a shelf.

Mind you, the thing doesn't weigh 50 lbs. Well, I got a lecture on

how I shouldn't being stretching like that to reach things because

it can cause the umbilical cord to wrap around the baby's

neck....and so and so's daughter had this happen and blah, blah,

blah. Well, I said okay, and thought fine, every time I need

something in my stupid office, one of them can get it for me. Then I

got to thinking, I have to REACH, to get my dishes from the

cupboards to eat a meal, and I have to REACH to get my towel for my

shower on a daily basis. So, what the heck am I suppose to do???

I was a nervous wreck all weekend because the baby wasn't as active

as she usually is and so I worried. Finally this morning I emailed

my mom. She was appauled that my so called friends (co workers)

would want to make me worry like that. She told me I will be fine

and to not let them get to me.

This is not the only thing they have given me unwanted advice on. I

get yelled at by my boss on a daily basis for using Equal. She knows

about by RNY and how sugar makes me ill. All she says is that it

causes birth defects or brain damage or something. I told her my dr

said it is fine. She says he's crazy and I should change dr's. Then

today, she couldn't understand why on earth I would need a Glucose

Tolerance Test, I told her they are pretty much standard any more

for pregnant women. She thinks I am nuts, and of course my dr is a

quack and I should switch. Whatever!! I am so tired of people

telling how I am doing things wrong. I figure at this rate, when my

baby comes, they will then tell me how to raise her!! I am doing

the best I can do for me and my baby. I don't smoke or drink or do

any illegal drugs. I take my vitamins religiously. I am eating way

healthier than I bet they did during their pregnancies!! I think I

am doing pretty damn good!!

I just needed to vent. I still have to deal with this for 14 more

weeks. Let's just all pray that you don't hear about me on CNN or

something!!!

Thanks!!

They definately are hanging in the old wives tale days, lol... My brother got

upset because I reached for something too, I forgot what it is now but he has

done it 2x and I told him it was just a tale. they only do that because they

care and with our hormones raging most of the time we don't see it like that

because we want to be left alone. Just ignore them and tell if you want tell

them you already ahve gotten a second opinion from another doctor when they tell

you yours is a quack, lol, they can't all be quacks. Good luck and just keep

doing what youa re doing. Sounds like you are doing great and all the best

things for your baby.

Are you taking the Glucose Tolerance Test? Because they don't give good

results in WLS patients. You also risk dumping. YOu might want to suggest to

the doctor taking a fasting test to determine if you have diabetes. The

results would be better. I believe the alvarado website has information on

this. SOrry if this is unwanted advice.

People always seem to make a comment about everything...I know I have been

guilty of it.

There is another mom at my son's preschool who is pregnant - due about a week

before me. Everyday she pulls up in her minivan with all the windows up and she

is smoking with her 2 kids in the back. This makes me crazy and I have made

some comments....

My mother in law is a Jehovahs Witness and she said that I shouldn't be bringing

children into the world because the end of the world is coming and children will

just be a traumatized burden....gee can't understand why she and I don't get

along...

Then the rude questions....I was asked in the grocery store last week by the

checkout girl if my pregnancy was planned. What the hellicopter does that mean?

I was offended my husband just thought she was wierd....

Then not to mention all the complete strangers who want to come up and touch my

just popped out belly.....YIKES - get away!

I sympathize with you....but I don't think advice giving ever stops - cause I

get it all the time with my 4 year old son.

That is what my Dr wants me to do--

The fasting test.

I am 16 weeks now and he keeps asking me when we are going to do it. I am pg

with twins so he really wants it done. I keep putting him off. Mind you I see

him every 2 weeks. It is getting hard.

Does anyone know what happens during this fasting test. I understand the no

eating for 2 hours. Which I will probably get nasuous?Spelling?? But after the

2 hours is it just a blood test?

Thanks

and I know my Dr will thank you

Tricia,

I did the fasting test and it was a breeze. Its just two blood tests, one early

in the morning because you can't eat or drink anything after midnight the night

before. Then you go and have breakfast, eat what you usually eat, then go back

2 hours after the first blood was drawn and have blood drawn again. When I did

mine they drew the first blood at 8:30, I went and ate, then they drew the

second blood at 10:30. I was a tiny bit worried since I eat real slow and I was

sipping my coffee pretty much right up to 10:30, but everything was exactly

where it should be. I will share something funny though, when I had the first

blood drawn the nurse asked me if the doc told me what to eat for breakfast and

I said no, I was just going to eat a normal breakfast for me. She said, no,

thats not right, you need to eat a big breakfast, at least 1200 calories. I

just busted out laughing so hard! LOL!!! She looked at me like I was nuts, so

I apologized and said, " There is no way I could eat a 1200 calorie breakfast,

I'm lucky if I get 1200 calories in a day as I have had WLS! " . I then had to

explain to her that this was not a test to see if I had regular diabetes but a

test to see if my sugar stayed normal because I was pregnant, a modified

gestational diabetes test. She got it then and I had a good chuckle the entire

time I was eating. :)

Here's what I did. I fasted from about midnight until my appt time

the next morning at about 8:30am. They took my blood sugar then.

Next time I had an appt (which was a couple days later because I had

to go back in for something else) I ate exactly 2 hours before my

appt and then they took my blood sugar then, too. Other women in

this group have fasted like I did, went in for their appt, had their

blood sugar taken, then went and ate a meal, went back in to their

doc 2 hours later and had the blood sugar taken again. It's all

basically the same thing, just different ways to go about it. Every

time I go in for an appt, I make sure to eat my breakfast about 2

hours before my appt and they take my blood sugar. That way they

can keep a monitor just to make sure everything stays ok.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their support. I am so glad that

I am not alone!! I haven't had anyone tell me I am huge yet, seeing

as how no one can tell I am pregnant even though I am 26 weeks

along. I think people have their best interests in mind for me, but

really have a bad way of going about trying to help me...even though

I didn't ask for their help. I will just think of you guys next time

someone has advice for me...you all seem to be handling this so

great!!

Oh, and , as far as the GTT, my PCP is trying to work with my

OB so that I can do something else to check for diabetes. I tried to

explain to my OB why I shouldn't take it and that I didn't want to

and he just ignored me. My PCP, she was like, no way, you can't take

it. So, thanks for advice...and don't worry it wasn't unwanted!!

You guys are great!! Thanks a million!!
