Guest guest
My daughter will be seeing Dr. Ponseti next week and i was wondering if anyone else from this board will be there? The only thing he had available was a 9:00 appt. But I took it any way. We will be leaving from Texas on the 15th and hopefully everything will go well. The only thing i worry about is the road conditions. I called the RMH and for some odd reason they could not find the request i put in yesterday. So i had to fill out another one over the phone. I hope we get to stay there because i have heard such wonderful things about it. The last thing we are waiting to hear about is our insurance. I am praying that they will accept to pay to see Dr. Ponseti. My friend that works for my daughter's dr. said they were going to send all her file about her club feet to FirstCare as well as her ortho. I also faxed her a copy of Dr. Ponseti's email to me with the diagnosis and I am hoping that will further convince them about how important this is. I'm hoping to meet any one of yall there maybe.Thank You all for listening and giving me some answer to my ?'s. and BL CF 12/16/

Guest guest
We will be there! We don't even have an appointment yet, but we go this coming monday and then back for the five day cast change again on friday, so they will have to squeeze us in. I actually called about the Angel flights and the only problem I had was due to the early dark hours now and the weather, they can't guarentee flights out and I can't tell for sure how long in the appointment I will be. Since it gets dark in michigan around 5 now, there is now way we would be home in time. and they won't fly in the dark. It's also all volunteer based, so they have to work around the pilots schedules. We just weren't that flexible with appointment times and trying to get home. before dark for them. They also need to know 5 business days in advance. Hope to see you there! atypical bl cf mitchells 23/7 > > > > My daughter will be seeing Dr. Ponseti next week and i was > wondering > > if anyone else from this board will be there? Guest guest
We are actually staying at the red roof inn. After spending 8 1/2 weeks at the rmh, I just couldn't do it again. plus, since we are going for a night and heading home the next day, I honestly didn't want to clean the room before leaving. You get a reduced rate at the rrinn as well. 40.00 a night. Where are you staying? > > > > > > My daughter will be seeing Dr. Ponseti next week and i was > > wondering > > > if anyone else from this board will be there? Guest guest
What time will you be getting into town on Sunday night? How long have you been out of the casts? I love the bath time too. I will really miss that, but hopefully not for too long. > > > > > > > > My daughter will be seeing Dr. Ponseti next week and i was > > > wondering > > > > if anyone else from this board will be there? Guest guest
Hi , yep, we are getting recasted...if you want to revisit one of the postings it's in the " here we go again " one. But to do a little update. We had the wedges put on the bottoms of his shoes which has helped the toe walking tremendously. Only we didn't get it quick enough. and considering we did it after a month of being in the shoes, that's kinda scary. Toe walking is not good at all. Not only does it hinder the stretching of the heel cord, but it also doesn't not help to stretch the tendons on the bottoms of the feet, the ones that when pulled together form a crease on the soles of their feet. has very big creases and very tight heels. Because of the toe walking or standing in our case, it made the tightness worse, thus the recasting. grrr. very frustrating, but I trust Dr. P and I trust the One who gave him his gifts even more. So I know we are in the best of hands! Are you having problems with that? If you are I would encourage you to send pictures immediately or see about getting pt. Hope this helps, > > > > > > > > My daughter will be seeing Dr. Ponseti next week and i was > > > wondering > > > > if anyone else from this board will be there? Guest guest
I know, we still need to get our tree. After spending that much time at the rmh, I just don't want to, but the thought of going and getting caught in a snowstorm missing an appointment or whatever with two kids in the car...well, it makes me nervous. I just gotta pray and wait for an answer. Hurry up Lord! hehe The thought of not being there for christmas...oiy! I'm starting to cry again! grrr... > > > > > > > > > > My daughter will be seeing Dr. Ponseti next week and i was > > > > wondering > > > > > if anyone else from this board will be there? Guest guest
Gosh , before you go through all that, see about getting referred by your pediatrician and try out Physical therapy. It certainly can't hurt and make sure the Physical therapist is consulting with dr. p or dr. h. It has made a huge difference in what jason does, she was the one that got the wedges made for him. Working with her in PT for 2 times a week has helped his mobility a lot. Dr. p right now is thinking 3 more casts, but he has only seen pictures. nontheless I am hopeful. We will actually be going into AFO's that our PT got through our ortho in town. I am bringing those with me to show dr. p, he knows about them and helped the ortho here intown design them for jason. They are free moving, so I am pretty excited about that. He will go into the mitchells then at night. they have a foam wedge on the bottom of the shoe up by the toes that forces him to put his ankle down when he stands. They are pretty cool and I would highly recommend them for moms who are in the bar full time right now with a stander-walker to talk to dr. p about getting them. They just make sense. I can't wait to show them to . good luck. There are so many hard decisions to make. Lord bless you as you make them. > > > > > > > > > > My daughter will be seeing Dr. Ponseti next week and i was > > > > wondering > > > > > if anyone else from this board will be there? Guest guest
Hopefully we will get to meet! My daughter's appointment is at 9:00 but, since we are from out of town and its our first time i thought we needed to be there early. we too are looking at getting recasted. i sent Dr.P pictures last month and he said she had a relapse and she would need maybe 2 more sets of casts. but her ortho here in texas says she is fine and her feet are still very flexible. so these to very different opinions explain our trip to Iowa. when you say " they will have to squeeze us in " will they really do that? WOW! I received an email from the RMH and they said they would try to get us in because we are coming from so far but suggested a backup reservation at the red roof inn which may not be a bad idea. well you cant miss our noisy kiddos, so we will be there at 9:00 hopefully we get to meet and anybody else that will be there! That must be something different with the midwest organization because I have flown many times in the dark. It's dark in Maine by 4:00 PM, I can rarely get home before 4:00 from an appointment at Shriner's Hospital. In fact, the last pilot told me Angel Flight requires that pilots are instrument rated so they can fly in the dark and in the clouds. One thing you could do is fly there one day and come home the next day, that way you wouldn't have to fly in the dark. The northeast branch can't guarantee flights either, but I've never had a flight cancelled (I've now flown with Angel Flight eight times) and that included on a day when there were 50 mile per hour winds. I was scared to death, but neither pilot minded the wind at all. I've even had a pilot come pick us up at the last minute when our pilot didn't show once (he had the wrong day). Most of the pilots that have taken us to Shriner's tell me the only thing they stay away from is ice and they can fly below the clouds to avoid ice. Some pilots have de-icing capability too. There are all different types of planes. As far as length of appointment, I usually just guess at about 3 hours. The pilot will wait for you if you're late and sometimes they are late as well. I'm really surprised they told their pilots wouldn't fly in the dark. As far as working around pilots' schedules, what they do at the northeast branch is put your name, number of passengers, date and time of your appointment on a list and pilots sign up for you if it fits their schedule and where they live. I've had pilots from New York City fly us from Massachusetts to Maine, although usually it's a New England based pilot. I've given them as much as three weeks' notice and as little as three days' notice and never had a problem getting a flight. Maybe next time you go if you have more notice you could arrange a flight. I highly recommend them, they have been wonderful and saved us from an incredibly long and arduous trip. and 11/10/03 bilateral clubfeet
