Hi,

Welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy!

To find a Ponseti certified doctor in your area, click on " links " to

the left of this page there is a link to Dr. Ponseti's web site...you

want to click on " comprehensive list of internet links about the

Ponseti method " it will take you to the site, there click on other US

physicians offering the method.

You have come to the right place to find out great info regarding the

treatment of your daughter! If you have been doing any research, you

have probably come to the conclusion that you do not want unnecessary

surgery on your daughter when the non-surgical Ponseti method has

been proven to work in almost all cases!

Let us know where you live and you will probably get advise on who to

see in your area. I have heard that there have recently been many

more doctors practicing the Ponseti method and am not sure if all

have been added to the list.

I live in Canada thus have no experience (TG) with HMO's but you will

probably get some good info on that as well. The Ponseti method is a

much more effictive and less costly method of treatment!

Again congrats on your daughter and definately post where you live so

someone can advise you who to call.

You can see the comprehensive list of 'qualified' doctors at Dr.

Ponseti's site:

http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/physicians.h

tml#O

Unfortunately, there are none listed in Michigan. That's not to say

that there aren't any doctors in Michigan who are following the

method - if there are any, they may just not have gone through the

trouble to get listed yet. Your best bet would be to call the major

children's hospitals in your area and speak to their orthopaedic

department and inquire there.

Alternately, you could travel to a qualified doctor. I'm not sure

where in Michigan you are, but there are a couple of doctors listed

from Ohio ( G. Armstrong and Diane VonStein). Also, if you

are close the Canadian Border, there is a doctor in London, Ontario

( P. Carey) who is on the list.

Good luck!

Although there are none on Dr. Ponseti's list there are some doctors in Michigan

who practice the method and yes the doctor we see follows the protocol.

Where are you located in Michigan? There is a doctor at Children's Hospital

that my son is seeing currently who has trained in Iowa. He has been practicing

the Ponseti Method for a very long time.

I believe there is one in Flint that someone on this board is going to and one

in Ann Arbor. I do not have any experience with those doctors, but you might be

able to look through the archive to find the person who is seeing them.

It is very hard to find a doctor in Michigan because no one has been put on Dr.

Ponset's list, but that doesn't mean they are not following the protocol. For

our doctor he just hasn't taken the time to what is necessary. Remember you can

always interview a doctor before you go see them. Sometimes it is hard but it

can be done.

Let me know if you have any questions I can help you with.

We have a baby due in Jan with bilateral clubfoot. How do we find a

Doctor who can treat her with the Ponseti method given that we have

an HMO that makes referrals very difficult. We haven't found any

doctors yet who practice Ponseti, though some talk of casts and

surgeries.

If you click on the 'Database' from the menu at the left, there is a

table called " Patient/Physician Information " . From there, you can

find others who have been treated in Michigan with the doctor's

information.

Hope this helps!

We are from MI (Detroit area) and in 2002 when we had Zach there

were no doctors in the area practicing the method. Dr. Ponseti said

that many claimed to be, but he didn't feel they were achieving the

success they should be if they were practicing the method in its

entirety. We decided to travel to Iowa City for treatment. I'll

never forget thinking (at first) that this just wasn't a do-able

adventure for us to undertake. I'm so glad that those on this list

made it seem possible for us - and it was. If you want further

answers to your questions feel free to email me at:
