Guest guest
Hello, I am 39 and expecting my first child. I am definitely not the oldest person to do this, but I do have an Aunt who had her 3rd healthy child at age 50!!!!! Yep... she had an uneventful pregnancy and a fairly easy birth. Her first one wasn't born until she was 44 and then the other 2 followed that. This was years ago, too, so it's not as if advances in medical technology made it possible. My sister had her first at age 39 and her second at age 42... both healthy pregnancies and terrifically smart babies. I know that there are down sides to waiting to have a child (increased risk of downs syndrome and other health problems, less energy to devote to the child, fear of not living long enough to see all of the milestones in their lives...) but there are also such positives! I am certainly more centered and more able to appreciate this impending birth. I am also at a place in my life where I won't feel as if I've " given up " anything to have a baby, and I am a much more patient person than I was 15 years ago!! I know that will come in handy more times than I will be able to count! Do I wish that I had had an opportunity to have a child several years back? Yes, I do. I would love to already have that family started.. but it wasn't in the cards. I just feel very blessed that I'm being given the chance now. And yes, I will probably get mistaken for the " grandmother " in years to come, but so what! Anyway... don't know how I got off topic, I just really wanted to tell you about my Aunt ) Have a great day everyone! Dee P.S. I also read about the greater chance of multiple births once you pass a certain age but don't really know of anyone who has experienced that. All the multiple births that I know were related to fertility drugs.

Guest guest
Thanks, Dee It is so nice to hear and know that there are really " older " preggos out there. I am only 32 now and my first baby is due in about 4 more weeks. But already looking fwd to getting pregnant again! My mom was a 16 yr old unmarried when she had my sister. Then 39 when she had me. So everyone assumed she was my grandmother and because of her age and health, I felt like I was being raised by my grandmother. But I stayed mostly with my sister whom everyone thought was my mother. And I have always swore to have my children at a young age so they would have young parents. Both my parents are already gone and I hate that they aren't here to see me have my child. But since I am getting a late start at having a family, it is nice to see that I am not the only one and hopefully I can continue having more babies even after I turn 40. Thank you

Guest guest
No, I think I have you all beat. I am 44yrs old 8 pregancies with no children. We will be ttc hopefully sometime soon. I am 7months post op. Have never tried any drugs to help but may so because of age and irregular periods which are still occurring even after surgery. I haven't discussed anything yet with my ob but will soon. Thanks for listening. Joy open RNY 6/5/03 290/

Guest guest
I am also 39 years old and 29 weeks along with baby #1. I feel WAY more centered, mature and finally ready to handle the responsibility that comes with having a child. I couldn't have said that 15, 10 or even five years ago. I am so excited at being an older mom! And I feel FANTASTIC! Kari Hanson RNY 1-8-03 Aerin Hanson EDD 3/26/04 > Hello, > I am 39 and expecting my first child.
