Guest guest
Will definently email him. How sad to think that he has helped us so much and yet is so discouraged. Thanks for filling us in on that.

Guest guest
could you send it to me?? thanks -------------- Original message -------------- I had a talk with the other day as managed to crack one of his shoes right across the middle of the plastic underneath. He is such a good man and desperately wants these shoes to work for our kids. For those of you who have wonderful success stories with the shoes and for those of you who've been in others and struggled and haven't really in the mitchells, email him and let him know. He's been going through some struggles making the shoes and dealing with insurance and he's a bit discouraged. Please, let him know how thankful you are or how much you like the shoes. I think he could really use our encouragement right now. He's doing wonderful things!! If you need his email, let me know and I will get it to you. Guest guest
Hello , I recently spoke to because my daughter, Lhea cracked one of her shoes and now the straps are becomming unglued. Regardless, I spoke to on Friday (last week) we agreed that he would mold another pair (asked me for her information again) and that he would overnight them to me. That never happened. I told him that I would come down to IOWA and meet him at the hospital to switch shoes. I'm curious to know what type of struggles he's going through with the insurance(s)? When I picked up Lhea's shoes, I wasn't aware that he doesn't bill the insurance and they told me the fee right then and there and that was disappointing because I was not expecting that type of outcome. I did mention to him and Dr. P. that I would appreciate the next time there is a fee for them to tell me in advance so that I can better plan. Thank goodness that I carried our checkbook to pay him - otherwise, it probably wouldn't have happened right there and if that was the case, what would've happened then? So, now I'm here in IOWA to meet with him later today. He seems to be a great person and seems to be thrilled about helping children, but that event was not very gracious of him. poohismybb@... wrote: could you send it to me?? thanks -------------- Original message -------------- I had a talk with the other day as managed to crack one of his shoes right across the middle of the plastic underneath. Guest guest
Jennipher, I'm curious- did they not tell you before they gave Lhea the shoes that they weren't covered by insurance? The shoes are still a " prototype " brace per se, so only the kids who really *need* them (a-typical clubfoot) are getting them because they're custom made and expensive....or so I thought anyway. Does Lhea have a- typical clubfoot? Are you going to be in Iowa through the weekend? Hope we get to meet you! We'll be driving there tonight and will be at the symposium tomorrow. Guest guest
I'm sorry you had that frustrating experience. We have to remember that is just one person, with one (very excellent) skill set. Unfortunately, I think business acumen is not a part of that skill set. He's not a businessman, but if he were he probably wouldn't be any good at designing the shoes for our babies! I see how he tries to stay organized and tries to " do it all " but it's hard for him to stay on top of everything. I see dealing with that as part of the " price to pay " for being " in on the ground floor " in the design and manufacture of custom-made shoes for our atypical (and all types) clubfoot babies. I mean, for those of us who have struggled through with DBBs, think of the alternatives! Even though Devlin isn't using 's shoes anymore (he's working on design improvements that will work better for feet like hers), while she was in them I could see how FAR superior to the DBB they were---probably for all types of club feet! Like you, we didn't realize that we'd have to pay for her shoes when we first got them. I didn't have the checkbook with me but was very reasonable in making payment arrangements with us---probably too nice about it, actually (like I said, " shrewd businessman and entrepreneur " is not the description that comes to my mind)… If isn't able to continue his work, no one will. It is SO important for all the cf babies to get a better bracing alternative--- anything we can do to further his efforts should be done! (IMHO), > could you send it to me?? thanks > -------------- Original message -------------- > > I had a talk with the other day as managed to crack one of > his shoes right across the middle of the plastic underneath. Guest guest
Jennipher, I'm sorry you had a frustrating experience. We too were not told ahead of time that this would be out of pocket. We had an idea from one of the other families that actually came back for the shoes while we were still getting castings when we stayed at the Mc house there. So we were prepared, but no one official actually told us. I know that if you didn't have the money right then and there, would have worked with you to help you. Whether you mailed the full payment to him or worked out a payment plan. His first pair that he was overnighting, we misunderstood as they hadn't been made yet, but as soon as he got done making them he overnighted them. We have a strap come off as well, I don't know if a hospital near you has an orthotics department, but that's where we got ours fixed. They were more than willing to stitch it back up for us. You can bill the insurance yourself. However a lot of them are not paying it, but we were told to keep trying it under different codes whatever that means. Normal clubfoot shoes cost about 150.00 that's why 's having a hard time getting them covered. he's been trying for several years to get a " code " from the insurance companies. They are not working with him on this. He is basically a one man show. He does the paperwork, funds, and makes the shoes himself. I sure hope you have a wonderful experience in Iowa. He is a wonderful man, he's just stretched too thin right now I think. He's got so many shoes to make and he's not with a company that can just push them out for him. Lord bless you on your stay. > could you send it to me?? thanks > -------------- Original message -------------- > > I had a talk with the other day as managed to crack one of > his shoes right across the middle of the plastic underneath.
