Guest guest
Trying to help the cause, sent the following to Oprah tonight... This is not about me, but about an incredibly important, caring, gifted individual who has changed (for the BETTER!) the lives of so many children. When I met this 87-year-old man, I said to my husband, " Either he's G_D or he's sitting right next to HIM. " The man is Dr. Ignacio Ponseti. (I know you've received messages about him. Please read on!) Dr. P, now 90 years young and still treating his infant patients, has, without surgery, cured multitudes of children born with one of the most common birth defects-- clubfeet. Clubfoot infants are typically subjected to extensive surgery which often results in a lifetime of pain. Dr. P's approach, proven over 40 years, results in corrected feet, pain-free. Horribly, most doctors aren't aware of the Ponseti Method so most clubfoot babies undergo surgery. Doctors from around the world travel to Iowa to study with Dr. P, but not enough, and he's 90 years old! More people need to learn about this, FAST! Oprah, you can make this happen. Your viewers will fall in love with Dr. P-- he's a charming, warm, intelligent man with a wonderful Italian accent. (You can include cute children with perfectly corrected feet!) The babies seem to know that with Dr. P, they are close to G_D's hands. Our son, born June 2000 with bilateral clubfoot, screamed with other doctors but looked on in wonder as Dr. P manipulated his tiny feet to the correct position, and he actually went to sleep while Dr. P cast his legs from toes to groin. When I commented on this, one of the nurses said, " All the babies sleep when Dr. Ponseti casts them. " Four years later, my son has beautiful feet, runs, jumps, climbs, snowboards! I cannot emphasize enough the importance of spreading the word of this technique so that a new generation of doctors can learn from Dr. P. You have thousands of story ideas pitched to you, I know, but this one is more important than most. If even one child is saved from the pain of surgery by Dr. Ponseti appearing on Oprah, it will be worth it, but by having Dr. Ponseti as your guest, you will open a door for thousands to be helped. Please open that door. On the University of Iowa Hospitals' website, www.uihealthcare.com, a search for " Ponseti " will give you 60 references to this wonderful man. You'll also find information and photos of " Ponseti Children " at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/nosurgery4clubfoot. Those of us writing to you about Dr. P are just parents trying to help other parents and to show our gratitude. Thank you for your consideration.
