Guest guest
Hello, I know that this is completely unrelated to Clubfoot, but everyone seemed so interested that I figured I would share. I went to NY to film an episode of TLC's " What Not to Wear. " Overall it was alot of work. The show does not show what actually goes on...AT ALL. I was totally unprepared. I spent 90% of the time filming and only 5% shopping. There are off camera stylists that pick the clothes for you while filming. It wasn't like I could really pick most things. I could refuse to buy the clothes, but with such limited time and stores...what was the point? The goal is to spend 5000.00 in 2 days, if you dont' then you lose the $ and have nothing to show for it. Most everthing they wanted me to buy was " Dry Clean Only " I had a huge problem with that because aside from being a mother, I have no where to wear fancy clothes. I am an RN, all I wear to work are scrubs. I must say I got about 80% Dry clean only clothes and 8 pairs of high heels. They swear that the heels are comfortable, but I already have massive blisters on my feet. and Clinton were alright. I must admit that Clinton is much nicer than by alot. They really wouldn't associate with me between taping, they had their own room to retreat into between scenes. For the beginning of the show they do as much as possible to make me look worse than I actually did. They used lighting and makeup tricks to do that. For the 360 mirror, they picked the worst outfits ever...so bad that I actually refused to wear some of the things they wanted me to. The show was not all I thought it would be. It really was not very much fun to say the least. It was an experience that I will never forget and I did end up with a cool wardrobe that I will hardly get to wear. ALthough on the show I say how great it is and stuff about how happy I was, like they wanted me too.. They also made me spend 8 hours taping a piece in Macy's about a Playtex bra that isn't even made in my size and that is not made for nursing moms like me. Even though the bra was way too small, I still had to pretend like I bought it because it was some stealth advertising deal with Playtex. So much for reality tv. What Not to Wear is basically an advertising show. I can't believe I never realized that before. Nick Arrojo was great though. He hacked my hair and although it looked beautiful after he spent 3 hours styling it, it looks like crap now because what mother has that much time to put into it? I spent an hour this morning trying to fix it without success and I can't pull it into a ponytail anymore. He fixed the color nicely though. The color is much better than it was before. I hate to sound negative, because I learned alot about fashion, but most of it did not apply to my life. I hear that the show makes people who buck them look like meanies, and I garantee I complained ALOT so they will most likely make me look bad on TV. But who am I to complain? Kaitlin gets to spit up on $250.00 cashmere sweaters and I can chase her around wearing $400.00 Siegerson on leather high heels while constantly brusing my hair out of my face. I will also be in Redbook magazine in December. It might be November or January though. The show won't air for atleast 8 weeks. They will let me know when. Just an update for those who are interested. Freeman
