Guest guest
Rob, Dr. Jarka is a *she* and I've heard that she's very good. There are a few families here who see her (Candy and Cole, I think) but they aren't regular on the board, so they may or may not see your post. You can search the archives using " Jarka " as your key word (don't forget you have to scroll through the posts by using the " next " button). I think it's definitely worth your time for peace of mind! Keep us posted! & (3-16-00) left clubfoot > Does anybody here have experience with Dale Jarka, M.D. of > Overland Park, KS? Guest guest
Rob, I seem to remember someone on this list seeing Dr. Jarka, if you search the archives for *Jarka* you'll find the posts. I can't remember good or bad. Sorry. ************* OK - I ran some searches myself - start in Dec 2003 and search back. There's a bunch of posts about her. Most say good things. I think it's a good idea that you're seeking a second opinion. I have often wondered why Leah is in AFO's instead of the DBB. Did she ever wear it 23/7? Also, the picture you sent to the CFPics list is about as cute as can be! Why was she re-casted? Did I miss something or did you not post before she went into her new casts? You know, if it were me... and I had the opportunity to see Dr. Dobbs... I think I'd go there. For one thing, Shriners is free and they can help with transportation costs from what I hear. Another is... well from his reputation on this list you can be sure he will do everything in his power to make sure Leah has the best corrected foot possible without surgery. AND... he's got experience with older children. I know Leah isn't over a year old yet, but she's not an infant either. We've driven 8 hours with little ones, it's not fun but it's not horrible either. If you have to drive anyway, what's another 3.5 hours? Good luck! Guest guest
We saw Dr. Bonar in Kansas city for Isabellas feet and we still would if we hadn't of moved. She is on the ponsetti list also here is her information. K. Bonar, M.D. Rockhill Orthopaedics, Inc. 6675 Holmes Street Suite 360 Kansas City, MO 64131 We really liked her. She actually did her residancy with Dr.Ponseti for 3 years. I am very impressed at how Isabella's feet turned out. I would recommend her to anyone. I haven't had any expierence with Dr.Jarka. She wasn't on the ponseti list back in 2002 when I was searching for doctors in the area. Let us know how it turns out. I definatley would get a second opinion. Did I miss something or did you not post >before she went into her new casts? Leah wears both AFOs and the DBB (we can clamp on normal shoes to the bar). She wore the DBB 23/7 for 3 months following her first Achilles release, then dropped to 12 hrs (too fast a drop, I know from what has been said here). She had a second Achilles release 6 weeks ago because her right Achilles really tightened back up, and the left one was sorta tight, so the doc release both along with the plantaris and big toe tendons. She is back in the AFO and DBB as of Tuesday. She is staying in the AFOs better this time so far; we had a lot of trouble with the right foot with the original AFOs. There is extra dorisflexion built into the new AFOs to help keep the tendons stretched. She isn't wanting to crawl or pull up like she was before the casts came off; hopefully she will adjust soon as she is cranky due to lack of mobility and cutting her third tooth. My biggest concern is that except for regaining the dorsiflexion after the release, her feet don't look any different. There is a difference between the 2 feet. The left looks fairly normal, but I don't like how the right foot looks. The toes point medially, the mid foot looks ok, but she keeps rotating the outer edge under. All this was present before the second release, and I was hoping the release and subsequent casting would correct these differences. My gut says that things aren't as good as they should be, but convincing that a second opinion is needed won't be easy. has faith that Dr. Hakala knows what he is doing, and knows best. I think part of this faith is arising from the misery she underwent to correct her clubfeet and since Leah's treatment appears to be going so much better than hers, things are ok. She is more of an optimist than I am (I tend to be more pessimistic which may be clouding my judgement). I am becoming more concerned as time goes by. I do think that Dr. Hakala is a good doctor, and the original corrections went well, but I'm still getting concerned. Leah has distal arthrogryposis which is complicating things. thanks, Rob, (bilateral cf), Leah (bilateral, 12-18-03)
Guest guest
Rob, I met Dr. Jarka at the 3rd International Congress on Clubfoot in San Diego in August of 2002. I believe that she was on Dr. Ponseti's list at that time as well. I think that there have been a few other parents who have been to her that are on this site. > Does anybody here have experience with Dale Jarka, M.D. of > Overland Park, KS?
