Guest guest
Hi , has 4 Congenital heart defects. I'll give their names and some mediacl info about them: ASD (atrial septal defect -- This defect is characterized by incomplete closure between the two upper chambers (the atriums)of the heart. Blood can therefore flow through a hole (defect) in the wall (septum) between the upper chambers of the heart (atria) from one side to the other, causing some heart chambers to have to pump extra blood. The heart can dilate, the muscle can become weak, and the pressures in the pulmonary arteries can increase (pulmonary hypertension) due to the increase in blood flow. If the defect closes on its own or with the aid of surgery, these consequences can be avoided). PDA (patent ductus arteriosus -- The ductus arteriosus is a normal fetal structure, allowing blood to bypass circulation to the lungs. Since the fetus does not use his/her lungs (oxygen is provided through the mother's placenta), flow from the right ventricle needs an outlet. The ductus provides this, shunting flow from the left pulmonary artery to the aorta just beyond the origin of the artery to the left subclavian artery. The high levels of oxygen which it is exposed to after birth causes it to close in most cases within 24 hours. When it doesn't close, it is termed a Patent Ductus Arteriosus) Bicuspid Aortic Valve -- your aortic valve should have 3 " flaps " that open and close with blood flow. appears to have all three flaps but two work together instead of independently so they have classified it as bicuspid although it is not truely. Tortuous Aorta -- your aorta should be basically a smooth upside- down " u " shape. 's is " bumpy " . Sorry for the non-medical terminology but there is not a lot of info out there on this. Typically this is seen with coarctation (narrowing) of the aorta but 's aorta shows no narrowing --thankfully! The ASD and PDA should be self-resolving but they have not closed yet. That is a mild concern but not one they are willing to do surgery about. They are still hoping they will resolve. It is less likely as she gets older however. Guest guest
Wow Marilouise. The way you described it doesn't sound minor, but I will certainly take your word on that. God bless, and I hope everyhting works out okay (without surgery). Here's to a strong heart !!! And feet!!!!
