Guest guest
Some of you may be interested in looking at this link to a " practical guide " for clubfoot surgery, by Dr Damian Mc Cormack of Texas ish Rite hospital. I knew it was a complicated procedure, but only after reading through this, did I realise just how complicated! Compare this against the Ponseti method of a few casts (unless they're atypical of course) and wearing the shoes for 3-4 years. http://www.iol.ie/~rcsiorth/journal/volume2/february/clubfoot.htm Before he begins the step by step guide (27 of them), he says: " Manipulate and cast \ strap for 2 - 3 months, changing the cast weekly to determine if complete correction will be achieved. If not discontinue casting and book surgery for 6 - 8 months of age. " We live in South Africa, so I'm not familiar with the various US hospitals, and I don't know how old this web page is. Hopefully he's changed his approach since, or perhaps someone wants to send him with Ponseti literature and links to Dr Ponseti, Herzenberg and Feldman's websites, etc! Good luck in the renewed drive for Ponseti publicity in the US. We continue our attempts here too. Maybe it will take getting onto Oprah, etc before these doctors are convinced to change their ways! and 24 Jan 2003, bilateral www.clubfoot.co.za
