Guest guest
Has anyone in the California area been to see either Lerman, M.D. Shriners Hospitals for Children ~*OR*~ W. , M.D. Tichenor-Lowman Center for Orthopaedics at Children's Hospital Long Beach, CA And if you have can I get some information on them. ANd if you are seeing Dr. Lerman I would like some info on shriners. We are yet again trying to find someone locally to follow up with inbetween our trips to see Dr. Ponseti. We are in the Los Angeles area, but Sacramento would be alot more doable than Iowa (seeing that it is Shriners and it is free right? and I have family up there too, not to mention cheaper flights LOL) Hopefully this time we will have better luck than we have in the past. Guest guest
Hi , I actually was looking around too! I found Dr. on the list of Doctors that practice the method so I contacted him by email. Unfortunately his assistant was writing back 3 or 4 weeks later! So I thought this was not very serious. And he did not answer any of my questions. But if you are interested I can give you his email. What about Dr. King in Tarzana? He did a good job with our son even though he is not an easy person to talk to (my opinion) or Dr. Colburn in Pleasonton (very good!) he is with Kaiser. Hope you will find somebody (maybe you could let us know too. Guest guest
, Jonah is treated at the Sacramento Shriners by Dr Boakes. He was one of her first Ponseti patients. In addition to having seen him working with patients in the cast room, my husband and I have been able to speak with Dr Lerman at length about his training and commitment to the Ponseti method. He spent about 2 weeks with Dr Ponseti in Iowa earlier this year. He seemed to be very kind with the patients, took his time, answered lots of questions. He told us he considered it an honor to be listed on Dr Ponseti's list of qualified physicians and that he took it as a responsibility to follow the protocal. I'm fairly certain he would be a good choice and would be fine with you keeping in touch with Dr Ponseti the whole time. Our next appointment is with him since Dr Boakes is on " vacation " treating children in Africa. And the people at the hospital are just wonderful. It's always busy, so there's usually a wait, but there are lots of places to play. If you go up to the top floor, there are great views of Sacramento. An everything, shoes and braces too, is free. We usually stay at the Mc House, just a few bloks away. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions. Guest guest
We had seen Dr. Early at CHLA, but for some reason he is no longer there, and is no longer on Dr. Ponseti's list. I also emailed Dr. and got about the same response you did. None of my questions were answered, and it took about 3 weeks for his assistant to get back to me. I just didn't know if there was someone on the list that has actually seen him. I would LOVE to be able to go see Dr. Colburn, but financially there is no way we can afford that since we do not have Kaiser. It costs us about the same (including travel) as it does to go to Dr. Ponseti himself.... so if Dr. and Dr.Lerman are a bust, I am just going to quit trying to find someone local for followups and just go back to Iowa. And we've been to Dr. King in Tarzana, and will not be going back to him. His office staff, including the Dr. weren't very pleasant and I don't belive that he is totally practicing the Ponseti Method. He was trying to get me to put Becky in an AFO and reverse last shoes. And we have been to Dr. Ponseti and talked to him, and from what I have learned on this board and other places on the internet about the Ponseti method, know that line of treatment is not in the protocol. Put it this way at our last appt with him in June he was running 2 hours late.... then when we finally got back to see him he was rude, rushed us, and didn't listen to what I had to say at all. Then he proceded to say that Becky was going to need an AFO for her right foot and then possible surgery. He said that he was being conservitave, and that if Dr. Ponseti was seeing her he would DEFINEATLY (His word) do the ATTT. So, as soon as we got home I called Dr. P and we were out to see him 2 weeks later. It ended up that Dr.P said that she MAY need the ATTT but we are going to wait a year and see, he feet could get better. I just want to find a Dr. out here for her too that we can follow up with meanwhile. I am POSITIVE that we will be going to Iowa next summer, but I just feel better having someone else lined up that is close and can consult with Dr. P, know what I mean? Anyhow, sorry I got a little long winded there. Guest guest
Thanks Naomi!! Now how do I find out about applying and getting Becky treated at that Shriners and by Dr. Lerman? From what I understand they may try to get me to take her here to the Los Angeles Shriners Hospital, but from what I can see there are no Qualified Drs there.... So any information that you have that I can use to try to get her in there would be great! Thanks again!!! > Has anyone in the California area been to see either > Lerman, M.D. > Shriners Hospitals for Children > ~*OR*~ > W. , M.D. > Tichenor-Lowman Center for Orthopaedics at Children's Hospital > Long Beach, CA > > And if you have can I get some information on them. Guest guest
Dr. Colburn is in Walnut Creek, Ca. He is a Ponseti doctor and is outstanding. We love him and Dr. Ponseti does too. Dr. Ponseti has even come out to California and see many of us with Dr. Colburn. He is a Kaiser doctor. If you don’t have Kaiser I know that he will still see you, but you have to make arrangements for payment. I have Kaiser so I am fortunate not to have to pay anything to see him except for my travel expenses. We go southwest… super cheap less than $100 round trip sometimes.
