Dr. Herzenberg said Christian should have his tenotomy done on Friday. He

was on the fence as to whether or not he should bring him into the OR and do

it under anesthesia. He finally made the decision to do it in the office

with local anesthesia. Christian is such a fighter he cries and kicks. I

would not be thrilled about him having to have anesthesia but I am worried

about how it will go if Christian is merely laying or being held by someone.

He is EXTREMELY squirmy. Has anyone had an older baby have the tenotomy

without anesthesia? If so, was it uneventful? Was your child a " fiestly "

one?

He cried when they were taking his cast off and then 's son Tommy came

in and Christian cried while they were taking his casts off!!! Tommy was as

cool as a cucumber though. He must have been thinking - this kid is crying

enough for both of us!

Now, this is my next question. After they removed today's cast, the cut or

" wound " behind his knee looked extremely raw and painful. I showed it to

Dr. Herzenberg but he didn't seem to think much of it. It isn't going to

have any time at all to heal. Will it look absolutely horrible and be

extremely painful for Christian as the next few weeks of casting progress?

had both sets of tenotomies under GA.. First one when he was 4 months,

second when he was 9 months. When he came to he was very cranky.. VERY! But i

think that it was probably a good thing to do them under GA especially the last

one.. Good luck!

Hi -

My son was 6 weeks old when he got his tenonomy and I still had him go under

a general for it. He was only under for a total of 15 minutes and that

included the cast being put on after the tenonomy. They took him away from

me while he was asleep and then they put him under and did the procedure.

When he woke up he had a cast on, it was simple and painless for us both!

They are under for such a short amount of time that I would definately

prefer it over a local. You can also have them give him nitrogen to just

relax him a little if you aren't comfortable putting him completely under.

Hi ,

Obviously you know 's story for her 2nd tenotomy. I don't

think there was nay question that would get the anesthesia.

She is very fiesty during her appointments.

As for his " wound " --- 's looked HORRIBLE the last time I had

seen it (8/16, tenotomy was 8/20, cast came off 9/13). When the

post-tenotomy cast came off, I was prepared for a major wound but

believe it or not, it was practically healed!! It was a bit red and

a little " crusty " (forgive the non-technical term - LOL) but within

48 hours it was barely noticable. Not sure what did it but maybe

Christian's will do the same. Dr H never seemed as bothered by

's as I was.

sees Dr. H at 10:00 for her 2 week DBB check. What time do

you report to Pre-Op?

Hi Marilouise,

First off, I am glad to hear is feeling much better! You and

have our best wishes at the Cardiologist.

Well, it makes me feel better to know that her " wound " was able to heal with

the cast on, maybe it will for Christian too.

We don't have to be there until 12:30 on Friday. I bet you will be halfway

home by that time.

Dr. H said that Christian will only be in the shoes full time for 2 months

because he is older. Is this the case for also? I would assume

because she is older than Christian.

Hi ,

your son is only two days older than mine (Feb. first)

Anyhow, my son had his tenotomy when he was six 1/2 month old and he

is a pretty strong little baby! Since I knew only that the tenotomy

is done localy we didn't talk about any other options but I tell you

I would do it under GA if I could repeat it! They needed 3 people to

hold him down!! This is not nice to see. He was fighting it and

crying. Everything turned out well but it took a little longer (20-

25 min). I think for the doctors sake (and for him to be more

concentrated) and for your babys sake (and your own) try to have it

under GA! My thoughts and prayers are with you on Friday! Good luck
