Guest guest
Someone was curious about the characteristics. There are a few common char. of mito disorders according to our specialist, and Abbey is the " poster-child " . Her most obvious is of course, long, thick lashes. However, our specialist also pointed out that she has a high, narrow, arched palate (roof of mouth) and droopy cheeks. She also held her mouth open, although with ST she is beginning to close it more often than not. She had a difficult time sucking, it seemed to take too much effort and she had reflux, almost always arching her back. She has seizures and also had sleep myoclonus in her first few months. She has always slept more than other infants her age and has had constipation from day one. Also, this may sound crazy, the dr. explained that mito children, like down syndrome kids, have a unique pattern in their fingerprints. Abbey's fingerprints have this pattern. Fingerprints were a way of confirming down syndrome and other disorders before technology. He works with the Amish, therefore still uses a lot of old methods of medical treatments. There are other soft signs but these are the most common. I don't know why these are so common but from reading other posts it seems we all have a lot in common. hope everyone has a great day. , mom to Abbey : 3yrs. w/ mito complexI
