Guest guest
Lea had an appt yesterday with her pediatrician for an ear infection. While we were there, she was weighed and measured, and the dr said she was concerned about her lack of weight gain in the past 6weeks since her last appt. (Lea is 14.5mos and has partial complex 1) She only gained 4oz in those 6 weeks. I too have noticed that her weight gain has slowed, ever since starting her on the flovent for wheezing at that last appt. I asked her if she thought that could be the reason, and she said no- flovent usually affects the LENGTH or height, not weight gain. She said and I'm quoting here- " I suspect that she's not being fed enough. " (and then turned around and INCREASED her dose!!) WHAT!?!?!? I was so taken aback by that statement that I didn't know what to say. Normally I'm very happy with this dr, she *seems* well informed- but after that it's like she was accusing me of not feeding Lea enough food. I feed this child constantly. She eats 4meals of solids a day- and most of the time she acts full way before I allow her to stop eating. She has NEVER been one to have an appetite, or a desire to eat-- so getting her to eat at all is a challenge. Plus she is also breastfed- and nurses at least 12x a day. So it's NOT like she's not being fed!! It's funny because every time we see the pediatrician it seems like she thinks Lea is doing so horribly. She picks up on one tiny thing and doesn't notice all the wonderful things Lea IS doing. I mean, she's making hude strides developmentally-- although she isn't crawling yet, she *is* starting to get around! Her strength and endurance has increased tremendously in these past 11mos- and so, while I know weight gain is also important, I look at her developmental progress and I figure that this too is a good indication of how well she is doing overall. kwim? But then when we see her mito doc at Mayo, she goes on and on about how GREAT Lea looks, how fantastic she is doing- and the whole appt she is grinning ear to ear. I wish the ped would see this, or at least take my word for it when I tell her! anyway... my main question is about the flovent. Can it affect weight gain? Or is it just height? What have you noticed? Thanks! le and baby Lea, 14.5mo, partial complex I
