Guest guest
Does anyone know if Mito disease free babies ever have unilateral (unilateral is one side of the body) shaking of the limbs? In fact, sometimes it would only be a leg shaking/trembling. I have wondered if my boys' unilateral shaking (seen during infancy), was a soft sign for mito disease. I remember I did not feel comfortable with it when I saw it, as I was concerned it might be a neurological issue. But our peds doctor did not do anything about it. The only other time I have seen shaking was when my youngest son use to take naps and I would wake him up, his whole body would shake for a little while. I don't see it anymore and he is 6 yrs now. Just curious, thanks, Shirley mom to and Jordan
Guest guest
There are several different reasons for tremors. Seizures, muscle weakness or fatigue, myoclonic jerks, etc. It really depends on what is going on. They all can be signs of Mito but can be caused by other things as well. Aseanth used to have the myoclonic jerks but since her Topamax was increased they stopped. I have had the fatigue/muscle weakness type of shaking and it is a real pain because it usually comes with lots of muscle pain. I have also seen Asenath have this type of seizure, but thankfully her seizures are under control and we rarely see any. The doctors have told us it is amazing that she has so few since both Mito and vasculitis usually have lots of seizures associated with them. With your 6 year old, it may have been blood sugar problems or nervous system malfunctions. I have woke that way many times and it really feels weird. Whether these things you have seen over the years are Mito or not is hard to say. I try not to worry about the "soft signs" of my children until they become bothersome or cause problems My oldest two have shown bothersome issues and so we have sought testing for them. Leah has symptoms like I do and I pretty much expect her to get worse as she grows older. I wish it weren't so though. Luke has several like me too, but also some strange issues as well. , Isaac, and Tirzah are holding their own but I am beginning to wonder what will show up with them as they age. If we have maternally inherited Mito it causes a 50% chance for them to develop it.
