Guest guest
I've noticed that my son's sensory issues (he has sensory integrative problems) get worse after an illness. His hearing, vision, and touch seem to be hypersensitive. For example, he will get scared when he hears a quiet sound like someone moving around in another room or the furnace turning on somewhere else in the house. Has anyone else experienced this? Are sensory issues common with mito disorders? Thanks, Stacey
Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. I just recently noticed that the sensory sensitivities seem to be related to illnesses, it's hard to put everything together and make the connections. After he was hospitalized in November, he got so scared so easily, in the car, by quiet sounds, by light changes, etc. Do you think the sensory activities (swinging, squeezing, etc.) help with the sensitivities? Coincidentally, I was looking at your web site yesterday. Your have a beautiful family. It always surprises me to read about other kids' symptoms and see how similar they are to Sheldon's, it makes it seem like finding the diagnosis should have been easier than it was. > Hi Stacey :-) > > All three of mine have sensory issues that are almost always exacerbated > by illness, especially when they were younger. > > Because Sensory Integration Dysfunction is an immaturity of the nervous > system, your often going to find a large number of kids with it where > there is neurological involvement, so in that sense, they probably are > relatively common in mito. > > -- BIG hugs, > Kass, proud mom to Chance(10-Mito), Madison(7-Mito), and Abby(6-Mito) > Home Page (http://home.swbell.net/mcpoop/index1.htm) > Updates (http://www.caringbridge.org/tx/mitowhat/) > United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (http://www.umdf.org) > " Life is not about the breaths we take, but the moments that take our > breath away " Unknown
