Guest guest
Bethany, Because it's a long drive for us, once we get to WDW, we like to park our van and use the Disney transportation the whole time. Overall, that works out fine for us--just a few problems over the years with buses that had broken lifts. Some people prefer to drive to the parks because they can save some time. It think you'd be fine either way, and if you've got a car with you anyway, you may find it's better to drive to some parks and let Disney take you to others. The Magic Kingdom is a special situation because the bus will actually drop you off much closer than you could ever park in a car, even with a disability tag (from the Magic Kingdom parking lot, you'd still have to take a boat or monorail to the park). One thing that's hard to do on Disney's buses (unless this has changed since we were there two years ago) is get to their other hotels, if you want to go to a character meal at another hotel, for example. Sometimes we had to go out of our way plus change buses (no small thing with two kids in wheelchairs who have to use the bus lift) to get to another hotel. Have fun! -- Mom to: Emilie (17), mito--complex IV, cp, ld Kaitlin (17), cp, asthma, a few autonomic symptoms Ian (22) migraines ....and wife to Tim, who has a heart of gold
Guest guest
Hi Bethany, We have been to Disney World (staying on Disney property) twice with our son who is in a wheelchair. The first time we used the bus transport everywhere with no problem. The second time we rented a car because we wanted to go to Universal and make trips to the grocery store for food. We took the rental car to a Disney park only once thinking we would save time, and by the time you get in and park and walk to the entrance, we found it just so more efficient to take the bus. The drivers are very helpful and took really good care with in his chair. If your daughter can safely be transported in the stoller on the bus, and you are not planning to leave Disney property, you will probably have no need for a car. Tip for taking the bus, do not wait in what can be a large line for the bus but wait separately from the line at where the back door of the bus will pull up, so that the driver can see you need assistance, and your party will be allowed to board first. Guest guest
Hi Bethany, we just got home from our make a wish trip to disneyland, and hailee is non mobile, if you go to guest relations they will give you a handicappe pass which you use at the rides, you go to the exits of the rides and show them the pass and the attendants will get you on our longest wait was 5 mins. We used our hotel shuttle to go to the park instead of paying to park our van. general disney question hey all,we are going to disney this spring and i have a general question. we are staying on disney property (wilderness cabins) and i was wondering if we should use a car to get to all the parks or rely on disney transportation? Grace is nonambulatory, and therefore will be in her stroller. Guest guest
Bethany, Hi! Just wanted to give you my two cents about the Disney transportation. I'm a former cast member, so I have a pretty good idea of how they work... I would suggest using the Disney transportation(bus, monorail,or boats). Using your own car saves you the time of waiting for a bus...so I would do that if you are visiting another hotel for dinner or a character breakfast but for the parks (Magic kingdom, etc), if you use your own transportation you will have to take Grace in and out of her stroller to take the trams from the parking lots to the front entrance on any of the parks which can be quite a pain in the butt or a VERY long walk for every one. You'll be doing enough of that in the parks!!!! lol Feel free to email me privately if you have an specific questions you might have. I worked for Disney for 4 yrs and now work for an operating participant called Kids Nite Out.
