Guest guest
Hi Alison, My daugter had one recently. She has been having GI problems, constipation and gas for a while now and also her food intake was very small so Dr.H ordered a stomach emptying study. regards, Mini - isabel's mom > I have noticed numerous messages over the past few months of RSS kids > being tested for delayed gastric emptying. Guest guest
Hiya Alison, Coby just had an Upper GI and a delayed Gastric Empying Study done two weeks ago. We just got the results back yesterday. I had taken him to see the GI because he was having " episodes " . He doesn't spit up but he arches and screams. Those were the 2 tests that she ordered. I didn't question her on them because I knew that I had read so many of the rss kids on here had had those tests done. le, mom to: Shye, Brock, Coby & Carlee > > I have noticed numerous messages over the past few months of RSS > kids > > being tested for delayed gastric emptying. Guest guest
Hi Alison, had his first DGE test before his GT, so I don't know if the symptoms are the same after a GT is done. Before the GT we looked for bloating, gas, irritability, arching and chewing when there was nothing in 's mouth. Now if looks bloated, we vent the GT. He recently had the test repeated because we were having problems with gagging when we would increase his pump rate, no matter how slowly we went. (We were only attempting an increase of 1cc/hr/week) The test was also repeated because the GI wanted us to add oil to 's formula, and this can delay gastric emptying. She wanted to make sure he was emptying at a good rate, so that if it delays we won't have more problems with gagging. Guest guest
Alison, For Storm it was because he would throw up something he had eaten yesterday! (Or more than 6 hours before!) It was crazy, but they suggested that his was only slightly delayed! (Whatever!) Liquid is used for the test, not solid food! Carmen, Mom to Storm, age 7y 8m, 44.5 " , 43 lbs. Guest guest
has delayed gastric emptying, etc. I'm wondering since this is common in MITO if anyone here has found any effective relief for this? It's hard to get a kid to eat when they always feel "full". kj mom to De-Arbra age
Guest guest
Hi I can't remember if I already responded to this e-mail (I've been on vacation so I'm a bit dazed about being back in the "real" world), but my 3 yr. old, as of yet undiagnosed but suspected mito or other metabolic disorder with myopathy as a big issue, has dysmotility that has been quite serious and resulted in us finally (after months of sweating it out hoping that he would eat more, weighing him every week, praying that we wouldn't have to go to a g-tube) were told that we had to do the g-tube and I'm now so glad we did. When they did the surgery, the doc found that he had an "incredibly distended colon" filled with gas b/c the motility problems prevented him from moving the stuff out of his body. Asher is doing better with the g-tube b/c we can put small amounts of food into him over longer periods of time (all night) and it is a special formula (Alimentum) that is easy to digest. I don't yet know if he's gained weight (it's been one month now) but he does have a moderate increase in energy. Hope that long-winded (sorry) paragraph answered your question!
