Guest guest
Hi Tamara! I've been on this group for a while but I tend to be quiet unless I hear of something I might be able to help. is 6 years old and attending Kindergarden. She went to Pre-K last year and it was a nightmare. The school wasn't exactly sure what would need. The teachers had NO idea what was wrong with and WHY on some days she looked completely normal and others she looked like she was on her death bed. They tried to help and slowly everything did improve. I don't have too many complaints now. The best advice I can give you... BE A FLY ON THE WALL! Pop in unannounced. Pick him up early, drop him off late, don't assume ANYTHING!!!! and Above all fight for what your child needs... is doing VERY well... She is now attending the Regular ED class full time with minor pull outs. (PT, OT, and ST) She visits the Special Ed class most days only to use the restroom. (Which she can do almost by herself) She has a teacher who doesn't treat her any different!! She makes sure she doesn't leave her out. She even makes her whole class ride the special bus with . It's a complete 180 from where we were last year. Last year, they would let sit in wet clothes/pullup for hours. They treated her like a child with learning disablities. They left her out of every event. They would go ways that couldn't go (like they would all climb over a fence... when is in a wheelchair). When they went on field trips... They didn't ask for a wheelchair bus (They just made me attend all field trips and she rode with me) They even didn't get a bus to take to the Special Olympics. The teacher felt sorry for her and let her get away with misbehavior. I could go on for a bit... but you get the point. Just be careful... go with your gut. You will probably be right! As far as the energy issue, Send high protein snacks with him and Gatorade for a snack. (it always helped ) Thanks for listening to me rattle on. I have a kindergardener with Probable Mito...
