Guest guest Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 Kim, I appreciate your concern. I've thought about that too, as I know that you and & probably others had disastrous relapses after stopping treatment. What you are saying about tests for TNF makes sense. Baughman didn't mention anything about that, and I didn't think to ask him. I think I'll email him & ask if there is any research going on regarding that. For me, the Neurontin was very helpful with the neuropathic pain, but after crashing my car into the telephone pole last year, I had to go off it. My symptoms got much worse & that's why I started the Lyrica. I was already taking Cymbalta, which I will continue. Just cutting down the Lyrica is already leading to more pain--mostly jolts of electric shocks in my feet. I hope it doesn't get a lot worse when I stop it completely. Well, Kimmy, take care of yourself & try not to worry too much about me. Okay? BTW, I think it's funny that you used the term " ducks in a row. " Just this morning I said that to Sam & she asked what it meant. Great minds think alike, huh? Guest guest Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Dear Rose I actually got kind of blamed for my own troubles because of stopping meds, which i did with my neuros aok's at one point and was off them for short time without cover by soemthing else. was told that we can never expect to be off meds at all. so i do worry about you, each case is very very different i know and perhaps it all depends on the past involvment youve had and whatnot, or perhaps they just speak in hindsight, or make it all up as they go, or you know when they leave the room sometimes like they are going to check on something, maybe they are really going to use one of those dartboard chart things like your treatment chart.... kind of like ooooohhh okay what do i say this time? it starting to kind of seem that way, i know its only because we dont have the full picture of each patients history and complications and all the treatments they have been through etc, but its all kind of like russian roulette in the end i think, and i know how confused i get, popel keep pointing it out, or politely not pointing it out, but i can tell by their stunned silence when i say things or deny things. and its the silence that lets me know i am actually really confused and wrong now, not like before when i was convinced and knew i was the one in the right and would argue my point. theres a difference now, its like they are so stunned and shocked by what i am saying or forgetting and confusing that they are embarrassed for me and at a loss for words, go totally silent. its scary. well maybe tracie answered our question about the tnf testing in anotehr post, she said something about tnf proteins. i might be confused rose. looooool. im not going to look it up again. i too am going to write for answers on that one but feel i have reached my limit on freebies and am just tired of the whole subject and trying to find my own answers. i dont want to look for answers anymore for a while. it seems someone else should know them or be telling them to me. shouldnt they? if htey are out there i mean. the topomax at very low doses was really helpful with neuropathic pain and weakness especially. and i didnt have my major problems iwth it until i reached pretty major doses. i thought it was a miracle actually it worked so well for the weakness and pain i was having. just a thought. that was only on 50mg a day i guess. again there could be confusion. i dont know what lyrica is. i just cant get away from this thought..... of stopping whatever disease activity is causing the symptoms in the first place instead of just treating symptoms..... and when to decide to stop trying to do the first??? or when to know that there is no active disease like they are trying to decide for you now..... its all so confuzzling, and i think it should be explained better to patients so we are not left pondering .... i think it needs written down clearly, like i have to hve my scripts written down in 2nd grade type directions so i can follow them clearly. its not too much to ask is it? again that confusion setting in possibly? maybe this has all been explained many times over and im not remembering it . i guess stopping meds can cause some thing to seem to flare up, but sometimes they will die down after a bit of time off the med or at the new dose, so if you have decided to come down, have some patience.... again that confusion how do you know wahts from a flare up or whats from coming off meds and is there some printed guidlines for this? in that simple 2nd grade type directions ??? having all your ducks in a row .... thats a good thing i guess. i wish icould get mine there. you asked about the kids before, they are doing alright, i miss them terribly and would give anything to see them. there birthday is this weekend, i was searching for a way to order a cake and soem cookies on line to send them.... i found the cookies but they want 15$ a dozen hows that for ducks? can you imagine? i cant ifnd a way to do a cake at all. i just want to go home , it seems like i should be able to drive right there for the weekend or something. i cant imagine not spending their birthday with them. i do not have my ducks in a row on this one. i didnt get things ordered. and im getting all confused. i wanted to have a party delivered to them. and the presents of course all wrapped. but i havent got it done. im all behind and so upset with myself over it. im going ot dispapoint them. i need oen of those startrec beam me scotty things to get from there to here. anyone want to send a couple dozen peanut butter cookies and snookerdoodles to columbus ? what a great business idea, the money they must make on line at those college gift package businesses. 15$ for a dozen little cookies, good grief. shame on them. and way to go at the same time i guess. well im going to get my z's now rose dear. im way behind for the day, and its already night time here. and im freezing too, my feet are actually bright blue. look like one of those rasberry popcicles. take care kim Quote
Guest guest Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 > > Dear Rose >Kim, everything you've said in this message makes sense. Maybe we in the sarc family can understand each other when " outsiders " can't; like a code. I don't think even the guys like Baughman really have the answers. Well, Trevor does. What Baughman suggested makes sense to me, but even if it appears that I'm not having active disease & my symptoms are from scar tissue, I'm not comfortable going very long without some kind of treatment, at least the MTX. I know you were doing okay, then Wham! And told me that she went along for several years, not totally healthy, but getting by okay, then Wham! I think Quint had the same experience. My tentative plan at this point is to give it a few months & even if I don't start having obviously more severe symptoms, talk to my docs & Baughman about resuming the MTX, but injections to minimize the liver toxicity. I don't mind shots. I could teach Sam to give them; she'd probably love it! Pop Granny in the fanny every week! Well, like Little Orphan Annie, there's always tomorrow. Or next week. Actually, tomorrow I'm getting some injections in the sacro- iliac joints (hips) to see if it helps the terrible cramping I get if I stand up more than 3-4 minutes. And today I got my taxes done. Bad, bad news. Because I didn't get the lump sum from SSDI returned to my private LTD company by the end of 2005, it showed up as taxable income. That raised my total income level so high that even my high unreimbursed medical expenses weren't enough to itemize. I couldn't take Sam as an exemption this year because she was in the girls school for 9 months. And I had never changed the withholding on my LTD to take out more federal taxes & also to take out state taxes, which they weren't taking out any. In Indiana we have to pay state & local/county taxes. But our sales tax is only 6%, compared to 8% in Texas, so it probably all evens up in the end. But anyway, I still owe $700 fed. taxes for last year & $1300 to the state. And now, for 2005, I owe another $9300 to IRS & $900 to the state. I actually ignored all the letters from the state last year until I got a warrant from the Sheriff's Dept. delivered to my door. I'm still trying to figure out the Medicare drug plan & owe about $8000 to doctors & hospitals. I would give up control of my finances to a Power of Attorney if there were someone I trusted to do it. Well, on a brighter note, if you give me the twins' address, I will send them some cookies & a party kit. It won't be the same as from you, but you can tell them it's from their Hoowaiti Cousin Rose, not to be confused with Cousin Itt. But send the info tomorrow, so I can get the cookies & stuff mailed by Wed! Really, let's do this! Sam will help me. Love, Cracklin' Rosie Quote
Guest guest Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 dear rose im sorry to hear aboiut your tax troubles. i think i would make a mess of things of they were complicated. i had to try to and do the kids taxes for them this past week, with the EZ form they scanned allthe forms here and i downloaded the tax forms. then made them sit online and fill in the blanks while my 14 year old here on this side made sure i was making sense. of course i made sure it was a "good time" when we were doing it. i think the kids finally got it that it was really an EZ form and they didnt need me to really do anything for them on it. except maybe figure out that yeah someone else is claiming them as dependent, they were confused about htat. why i dont know. cause clearly they pay all their own bills right? looool. the scanner was certainly a good christmas gift to give them, i dont know what we would be doing without it. well it was just the terms and not understanding them i guess. thats alot to owe and must be a stress, do they not have programs for working it all out? or would being on disability now not help somehow? i honestly have no idea, just thinking. wish there was a big magic wand ... hey like those clorox erasers to erase stains.....just erase your troubles.... im needing to find an attorney i trust here too, not for finanical concerns as much as simple things to handle when and if the time comes. i keep procrastinating this issue because i just dont know how to find someone to trust who would keep their loyalties to me instead of my husband. but it needs resolved. just to even get letters or things to people or take of my personal belongings and my personal wishes. i thought i had all these things worked out, but i have since strongly changed my mind about my wihses and i know that nothing will go the way i want it to here be it tomorrow or twenty years from now. its an issue. financially and medically speaking even finding someone to turn power of attorney over to is a dificult issue if you havent had an attorney relationship for while, how do you trust the person i guess is the issue. and i always think putting things like this in a family members hand is asking for trouble among the family, putting someone in a tough spot, i would rather it be a non partial third party. well im rambling and rolling rollin grolling rolling, you and tracie are dears to offer the birthday cookies/kits .... ive written you off privetaly, youve just touched my heart to do so, its truely one of the kindest things anyone could do for me right now, or ever honestly. i keep imagining being able to surprise them and show up at the apt.....with all the makings of a wonderful birthday. but thats not going to happen, except in fantasy land. thank you for even thinking of doing this for me, the thought is hoenstly enough to touch me very deeply and mkae me very happy. i hit my head again earlier today and it is hurting so bad ever since i cant stand it. , its almost midnight here, im off to bed, take care i say its time for a ...... 4 wheeler tkae care and love, kim Quote

Guest guest Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Regarding taxes, my kids are both using Turbo Tax this year. If you are somewhat computer literate it is very easy. It asks you questions and you answer. The only thing is that you have to have all of your info in front of you when you do it. Turbo tax always guarantees your result and your return is approved by the IRS before it is accepted. Not it wouldn't behoove you to use it if you use the 1040 ez but if you do long form or you itemize it is a lot cheaper than having your taxes prepared. It will also do your state from what I understand. Of course, we still pay someone to do ours because my husband is not computer literate and my brain cannot be trusted but for those of you who have someone who can help you, this is the deal. I hope everyone is well and having a pain free day. Take care. Guest guest Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Terri, I got mine done free this year. There is a program where retired CPA's volunteer their time & a local church provides the space. I usually go to H & R Block where one of my friends works, but this year I couldn't afford it. Not so many years ago, I did my own, even with itemized deductions. I used Turbo Tax once, but it seemed like more work than just doing it in my head. Of course, that's when my brain was hitting on all cylinders. But I know a lot of people who love it. Guest guest Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Hi. I have used Turbo Tax too. It is fairly simple to use . Walks you right through even when do a 1040 (and I'm not as good as I once was with that type of paperwork and such!). As Terri says it will let you know if there is a mistake made so you can fix the error. And it's a hell of a lot cheaper than going to H & R Block.
