Guest guest Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 it finally happened if you can imagine, after waiting from 730 am til almost 300 in the afternoon, i was finally given the remicade treatment saturday. it went okay. i met a new neuro, who evoked a few seizures in the morning and began questioning the ns diagnosis and insisting i be admitted again to find the problem saying why are we in a rush to begin this treatment with remicade , if i actually have MS??? Good Grief. He did listen about my seizures, started me on yet another med , if i can just get back to the hospital to get it now, that he said will be better at controlling them. i was able to get alot of my test results copied today, but alot of it is still missing from the file. odd thing is alot of things in teh blood are normal, and then all the work ups in teh csf are way off, they did alot of tests i never heard of before on teh csf i dont kow what they are. i wish i knew how to interpret these results, im having trouble even looking it up ont he web. the remicade seemed to go fine, i will go again in two weeks. then every four weeks. they are giving it to me with steroids via iv. to stop the allergic reaction, plus another antihistimine, as well. like tracie said they would. i just didnt expect the steroid with it. i just feel very tired and worn out, but if its from the remicade or just my normal state of being, or allt he seizures, i dont know. maybe all three together. i certainly do not feel any better at all, nothing miraculous saturday or as of yet today. but having great hpoes for this new dr, new communication , new medications, just anything ....... any answers at all ... he said most of these are evoked reflex and evoked partial and evoked complex seizures. some i have are not evoked but they seem to have been controlled somewhat, its those that are tied to specific things that are left uncontrolled now and really still effecting my life so badly. at least i have a name and three neuros who made them happen and watched them happen and listened to me. that feels validating if nothing else. just an update. take care kim ns moderator Yahoo! Guest guest Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 I am so glad that you finally got the Remicade. Kim, give it time, you're so very sick, and this is a start. I know the MD wants to think it's MS, and I hope it's not a combo-- but I do hope he's willing to look at the whole picture and not just a couple of things. Hang in there-- and see if they can give you MTX with the Remicade--then MTX shots weekly (so it bypasses your liver) instead of the steroids. Since you've got MD's listening to you now-- let them run the tests they want to run-- and let's get this figured out. I don't need to tell you that with as many components as you're dealing with-- it may take a combonation of meds. Love to you, Tracie Quote

Guest guest Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Kim, I'm with you; I think it's good to have something being done. Do you have the name of the new seizure drug? Baughman told me that you can tell within a few treatments if the Remicade is going to work. I think for some people, that could be the first treatment, others might take more. But let's assume that you've had your share of shit this year & that you will be an early responder! I know you must be exhausted from hanging around the hospital all day; I hope you didn't have to sit up all that time. Rest, and don't worry about us. Guest guest Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 .. i had blood sugar troubles all day saturday and into sunday, like i said, up into the 300's even, so felt awful from thta, my sugars have been normal for months, so im sure it was the steroid, i didnt eat a thing at all , all day long. Kim, Blood sugars in the 300's is a bad thing. BAD. When your sugars are that high--get some protein down. Cheese, a boiled egg, a chicken breast--but get some protein down! Then get a small glass of juice. ANd get the water in--your kidneys and liver need it. Are you on insulin or glucophage? The headache and exhaustion/fatigue is not just from the Remicade--it's from those sugars being so high. Back to basics girlfriend. Get some decent food going into that body. That will balance your bloodsugars faster than anything. Love ya, Tracie Quote
