Re: Vitamins and Co Q WE too use the Tischon brand. It has not proven to be more bioavailable for my children - even on 15 mg/kg/day they all have levels far below normal - to the tune of 0.2 to 0.3 (normal is 0.5 to 1.5 and on that amount per day they should be obtaining levels of at leats 3 or higher). Having said that we still given in the event that it is prolonging worsening. I also often wonder how reliable a blood level is - is the blood level predictive of the level within cells. I don't know. What I like about the liquid brand of Co Q from Tiscon is that it has an NDC code. This is "National Drug Code" and means that the FDA has actually looked at this product and said that what the label claims is in the liquid is really there. As you all know the FDA does not regulate herbs and vitamins , etc and there have been many studies showing that what a label claims is untrue. (example the label states 100 mg of Co Q but the capsule actually has 20 mg in one and 40 mg in another, etc). Where I work at a Children's Hospital, the policy is that unless the prduct has an NDC code, the hospital will NOT dispense it. It makes good sense. I am paying for this out of my pocket as I am sure many of you are. I want to know that what I am giving my children is exactly what the label says. The NDC code assures that. Another excellent source for NDC code products is the Key Company in Saint Louis. We purchase our Alpha Lipoic Acid and 100 mg tablets of Riboflavin from them. They are very friendly and you can order online. Also, they do not have any fillers in their Co Q capsules, Riboflavin or alpha lipoic which is an added plus. I would urge everyone to find out if what you use has an NDC code - it should be noted right on the label. if it does not consider switching to a product that does. As I said that Tischon Liquid Q gel does but as of now their capsules do not. Even so it is one product that I would trust without the NDC simply because of all the double blinded studies they have done. Hopefully soon the FDA will give them an NDC code for their capsules.
