Guest guest
I gave cornstarch to my youngest, Molly (undiagnosed) because she has been showing signs of hypoglycemia lately. I thought it couldn't hurt. Wrong. She broke out in a huge rash. She does sensitivities to wheat, peanut, milk and egg. She has never had a problem with any other corn product. I gave her Benedryl and she seems alright. Has anyone has This happen? Any words of advice would be helpful. I will have to get ahold of her allergist tomorrow. If she is truly allergic to corn, what can she eat then? No wheat, milk, egg, peanut or corn does not leave anything at all! Thanks, Dawn
Guest guest
Dawn there is a type of Mito/FOD called Fructosemia...and I know those kids get sick with anything with cornstarch in it. I don't think they have a rash though. That's the only time I have heard of it. Those kids bodies become acidotic and fructose is like a poison to them. One of my very best mito-mommy friends (not on the list) has a child with this. She has severe sugar issues now and got a gtube about a year ago so they could give polycose at night. deb...mom to three great adopted kids... Guest guest
Dawn, Can she eat soy? Soy is the only non animal source with complete proteins. There are numerous other grains out there as well; millet, buckwheat(NOT related to wheat at all), amaranth, quinoa, and the list goes on. Is she allergic to all nuts, or just peanuts? Seeds are also a good source of fat and protein, they are most nutritious raw. A great book I picked up helped with findind alternatives when I was eating gluten and dairy free for awhile due to allergies. It's called Freedom From Allergy Cookbook 4th ed. by Greenberg MD & Nori. That is where I learned about all the other grains besides wheat and which ones were relatives and to avoid. I have also read that carob is an excellent source of complex carbs, and it comes in powder. It is a bean though, but I am not sure if it is a legume.
