If they aren't having a full seizure it will be pretty hard to tell as

twitches happen while sleeping anyway. If you can a request a natural sleep

eeg that is the best way to tell. You might have to do a video if you can

to help your doctor see what you are seeing. If you have one of those

monitors that record directly on your vcr that is great or just set up a

camera to run for a couple of hours every night.

If Tony has a seizure while asleep it goes like this,

He will get really still

His eyes will open wide

He will start to stiffen up, his arms go out and his legs go straighter.

His breathing is different (this is usually the point where I come in if I

am not already in his bed or him in mine (we just recently got him to sleep

in his own room alone!!!)

He may progress into full grand-mall seizure or just the stiff part at this

point.

Tony has had different types of seizures over the last 10 years. If I can

be of any help let me know.

Thanks for answering Cindy. I do not suspect full seizures, but

possibly partial/simple seizures. I have for years and with things

the way they are now???? KWIM? We have had episodes in the past

that suspiciously looked like absence seizures or similar small

seizure type activity, but I have never been able to document it. We

do not have a Camcorder so that's out. He does odd things in his

sleep and with current events I am not satisfied we have laid this

possibility to rest. I know enough to know there is a whole lot I

don't know, but not enough to really know what more too look for or

what to tell the doctor.

I've got another question about seizures. How long is too long? Will just had a 10 min. seizure, at least from when I noticed to the time I saw it stop. He was blue, but I couldn't get the pulse ox to give me a good reading so I don't know what his sats were, they are ok now. Is this something I should call the Dr about immediately or wait. Our Dr will just send us to the ER.Thank

Hi ,

When has a grand mal she can turn blue, and have trouble breathing. Her doctor has prescribed a Diastat suppository for when it lasts more than three minutes. I think all doctors have a different cut off duration. Maybe you should call the doctor, and find out when they feel too long is too long.

Wishing you guys well,

Sherry

I just called the Neuro's office who is consulting and they said they

would talk to the Dr in the morning and give me a call back. So we'll

wait and see. I've gotten used to the 3-5 min ones this was just way

too long for me.

Thank you everyone for your help

I have been told anything longer than 40 minutes can cause brain

damage. I have also been told that you want to be trying to stop

the seizure by 10 minutes. Supposedly if it goes any longer it

becomes more difficult to stop. I know each child is different but

this is what we have been told in regards to Wyatt's seizures. We

may have been told this because within 2 minutes of a seizure

starting Wyatt begins to turn blue and we need to turn on his oxgyen.
