Guest guest
I't is so weird to see all of the little ones do the same things Colby did when he was little. Boy, do I wish I would of had a support group to talk to then. Colby, started gaining weight when he was about 7 yrs old, but he didn't stop. He didn't ever grow in length, so his growth is severely stunted and he has a stomach that looks like he is 9 mo pregnant. His thyroid doesn't work at all so he will be on meds, for that, forever. When he was little, he threw up all the time and was so tiny. The idiot E.R. Dr.'s always put failure to thrive, then they would look at me and say well your not very big maybe he just takes after you. SCREAM! Anyway, he always used to get sick on weekends and still does. He still throws up alot, but is just to big in the tummy. Sorry! mom to Colby,13,COXIV,LCHAD,ACC,ADHD ,hypothroidism and osteopenia. Guest guest
Leah goes through her ups and downs with eating. I believe she gained a pound this past month. At least it feels that way. Either that or she is growing and she feels heavier. Any way, we try to feed Leah many small meals throughout the day; if at all possible. But please meet with a dietician. They will be able to guide you in the right direction for good foods. Some kids on this list are on different diets. If you aren't that is great. We usually cut up Leah's food small pieces so she can feed herself. But like last night she had two slices of pizza, half a can of cut green beans, and 1/4 can of mandarian oranges. She has no eating issues. Now she wants her pizza in slices instead of cut up. She loves cheese and because we monitor her fat intake as much as possible, we get low fat cheese. Like this morning she had 4 oz of rice milk and then about 30 minutes later she had several slices of cheese, 1/4 can of mandarian oranges and one slice of lightly buttered bread. So she is back to eating real well. We get the Gerber baby fruit sauces in those little plastic containers. One of the mixed fruit has about 100 calories in about 1/4 cup. She loves applesauce and those are easier to haul around than the jars. Fruit isa good energy booster. How about bananas. We have gotten to the point that if Leah does better eating while doing the computer and me hand feeding her, I will do that just to get food in her. She loves tv so she watches tv while eating in her high chair. Some times we let her eat on the couch sitting up. How about yogurt? you can get those energy drinks, but always check with a dietician before giving your child any thing like that. The sugary powder that we give Leah in her rice milk; especially when she is getting ill is called Polycose. At least that is what we use. And you can mix it with foods, too. Because we may have to limit Leah's protein also, that is why we discontinued Pedisure. But that has good vitamins and calories in it. But try smaller meals through out the day. Find out when he has the most energy to eat. Can he point or tell you verbally what he would like to eat. We've held Leah in front of the pantry and have her pick out her stuff to eat. She recognizes the labels. Even in the frig we have done that. Good luck and let us know what you find out and what works for you. It's neat how this group shares and when we try some thing that some one else suggests its like a lightbulb goes off in our heads and we can also say, yeah it worked. Thanks. I've already seen an improvement in his energy with the g-tube and night feedings. Plus, when he won't eat or drink during the day, I can supplement with Pediasure. He's on Alimentum at night.
