Guest guest
I do not know much about Flovent, sorry. My daughter is on Albuteral and Pulmicort for asthma and we have never noticed anything as far as growth in relation to the asthma medications. But as far as weight gain, Grace did this at about the same age. It seemed like she stopped growing (she actually lost a few pounds). Do you think this may be mito related? Grace never really had too much interest in foods. We ended up figuring out that she actually started to know which foods had medication in them and would refuse to eat it at all. I don't know how much Lea is taking or how you give it too her, but that is why Grace was loosing weight. As far as your pediatrician, does she know a lot about mito? Maybe if she knew more, she would understand her better. As far as her doing well, you are the best judgment. I would also listen to Mayo first. No matter what other doctors say, if Dr. Cohen has a smile on his face, I know Grace is doing good. Best of wishes to you, and Lea.
Guest guest
Hi le, I noticed that my Jeny does not eat as much when on Flovent. Especially when her Dr. put her on the max dose of 220. She had a severe reaction to the higher dose and boy did things go crazy. We are still dealing with problems 5 weeks after going back down to the 110 dose. Feel free to share this with your Dr. There are alot of meds that is taking that are not suppose to do the things they do for her but........if it works dont try to fix it. Hope this helps a bit. Have a super day! Horsley flovent question Lea had an appt yesterday with her pediatrician for an ear infection. While we were there, she was weighed and measured, and the dr said she was concerned about her lack of weight gain in the past 6weeks since her last appt. (Lea is 14.5mos and has partial complex 1) She only gained 4oz in those 6 weeks. I too have noticed that her weight gain has slowed, ever since starting her on the flovent for wheezing at that last appt. I asked her if she thought that could be the reason, and she said no- flovent usually affects the LENGTH or height, not weight gain. She said and I'm quoting here-"I suspect that she's not being fed enough." (and then turned around and INCREASED her dose!!)WHAT!?!?!? I was so taken aback by that statement that I didn't know what to say. Normally I'm very happy with this dr, she *seems* well informed- but after that it's like she was accusing me of not feeding Lea enough food.I feed this child constantly. She eats 4meals of solids a day- and most of the time she acts full way before I allow her to stop eating. She has NEVER been one to have an appetite, or a desire to eat-- so getting her to eat at all is a challenge. Plus she is also breastfed- and nurses at least 12x a day. So it's NOT like she's not being fed!!It's funny because every time we see the pediatrician it seems like she thinks Lea is doing so horribly. She picks up on one tiny thing and doesn't notice all the wonderful things Lea IS doing. I mean, she's making hude strides developmentally-- although she isn't crawling yet, she *is* starting to get around! Her strength and endurance has increased tremendously in these past 11mos- and so, while I know weight gain is also important, I look at her developmental progress and I figure that this too is a good indication of how well she is doing overall. kwim? But then when we see her mito doc at Mayo, she goes on and on about how GREAT Lea looks, how fantastic she is doing- and the whole appt she is grinning ear to ear. I wish the ped would see this, or at least take my word for it when I tell her!anyway... my main question is about the flovent. Can it affect weight gain? Or is it just height? What have you noticed? Thanks!le and baby Lea, 14.5mo, partial complex IPlease contact mito-owner with any problems or questions.

Guest guest
le, My 7yo has been on Flovent for 2-3yrs and I don't believe it has effected her weight gain one way or another. She is tube fed and was actually gaining too much weight, until her diet was changed. Her height has been about average, although she may be a bit on the tall side for 7, about 45+". Guest guest
The appetite thing is the same as Asenaths. We could push food at her all day long and she would hardly ever eat anything. She became so malnourished and it took us forever to convince the doctors she needed help until they FINALLY did nutrition studies on her. Then they immediately placed a NG-tube and a G-tube six weeks later. Some Mito kids just don't seem to know when they are hungry or something prevents them from eating like fatigue, tummy issues... I nursed Asenath before the g-tube as that was the only thing I could get her to consistently get. The doctors encouraged me to do so, but there were some who said it was the cause and it limited her appetite for other food. I am sure this could happen for a younger child and if really overdone, but for an older child who normally would eat when hungry, nursing should not interfere. I have nursed 7 children and only have had problems with the two Mito affected kids when it comes to appetite/eating issues. Keep up the good work and don't let the doctor frustrate you.
