A couple weeks ago both Asenath and Zipporrah had extremely foul smelling bowel movements that were liquidy and I am sure it was roto-virus. I am just not sure if Zipporrah is not kicking it or if there is more to it than that. Today she isn't vomiting (yet) but still having greenish watery bowels. We have had roto-virus before and recognize the look and smell, so I am pretty sure it is roto-virus. Unfortunately, my pediatrician doesn't work on Fridays or Mondays so I can't send a sample to a lab. I suggested the hospital take a sample when I was in because of my concern, but of course, they didn't. The Pedialite is helping and I know she isn't getting too dehydrated yet so hopefully she will start to improve, especially if she isn't vomiting any more. Darla Re: Dehydration question Hi Darla: Sounds like it could be rotovirus. The stools can be really watery. The only way for you to know is to take a diaper to the lab and have them test it. Leah had this twice and needed to be hospitalized both times with an IV. So I would be concerned for Porrah. Get it checked out. Can't remember if there is a weird smell in the stools. She has been getting much more milk now than before so at first I thought her output was due to that and then she became irritable after feedings more and more. She seems to be having gassiness and pain during her feeds and I am unsure how to help. I don't know if this is part of her illness since she has a fever, or if it could be the formu! la, or a combination of both. She is pretty crabby and things are only getting worse. Any help would be appreciated. ER probably wouldn't understand! I want to keep her home as long as it is safe, but don't want to let her get too dehydrated. I am giving her 5 oz. every 3 hours except ot night she goes 6-8 hrs. without feeding. (Other than an occasional nursing snack.) Is this enough to keep her hydrated? I may add pedialite during her sleep with a pump but am afraid she will only loose it again. Any suggestions? Thank goodness she isn't vomiting anymore. That always does Leah in. It's

so interesting that the hospital didn't want to do the lab work. Did they

need an order from the doctor? I know you are extremely good about cleaniness

because if memory serves correctly rotovirus can be very contagious. I'm

glad the pedilyte is working. But it still isn't fun to go through all of

this. Sounds like your hospital could go through a training of how to really

connect with people and listen to what they say; especially when you have

a fragile child. I hope that this gets over for you real soon. You are

on my mind. Do you ever get a "break" from it all? And may be you can guide

me here and any one else from this group. I have a friend whose 4 year

old son was just diagnosed last year with autism. They are training in several

people for the inhouse therapy and the child gets 35 hours of "schooling".

My question is this. The mom (from my sister's point of view who is a close

friend) is sounding burnt out. They are doing the schooling, they are adding

on to their house and there are problems with that and she has this opportunity

to go to a great conference the end of this month but doesn't feel she can

leave. I think because this is so new to her she is very involved with

her son's education at this point (she has two kids). What advice would

you give to her to encourage her that it is ok to leave your child and the

education will go ok without her and that by getting away she will get new

ideas by talking to other people in the same situation. I know a few of

you did this when you went to the mito conferences and they didn't have child

care so how did you guys feel about leaving your medically fragile child

behind for a few days. Thanks for the input.
