Hello Everyone

Just wanted to give each of you a brief "heads up" that Dr. Bruce Cohen will be in Boston on Tuesday, May 11th, and has agreed to do a presentation and Q & A session after. I am in the process of trying to finalize location, etc.. at this point. The meeting will be in the evening and will start most likely at 7:00pm. I will keep you informed when I have more information. (UMDF sponsoring event--no cost)

I am now the new President for the New England Chapter of the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. If you are interested in joining the group and being added to our database for updates such as the meeting above, please forward to me your name, address, phone #, (if comfortable with that) and email.

Dr. Cohen's meeting is going to be a kind of "kick-off" to the restructuring of the New England Chapter. From there, we will start having support groups in Western Mass (Near the CT border), South Shore/Cape Cod (most likely in Plymouth) and in Boston. Meetings at each of the groups will be every 3 months or so and will alternate on days and times to try to reach out to the most individuals and various scheduling needs. As you know, New England is much larger than just Massachusetts so if any of you are from other states and would be interested in starting a meeting in that area, we would be grateful for the help and geographic coverage : )

Our primary focus will be support, and then guest speakers/education, and finally continued fundraising for the efforts at the UMDF. And always, always, education and awareness to all in the community--especially docs.

If any of you are interested in getting more intricately involved in any capacity or have any fresh ideas or suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Sincerely,

Bridget Willis
