Guest guest
Shirley, I would say that if Dakoda's leg cramps get better after he eats, there must be some correlation. Just keep on doing what you are doing and ask Dr. H. when you see her. Don't be surprised if she says there is no correlation. Sometimes, however, we parents see things that she does not. If it is working for Dakoda, then keep up the good work. I don't think there is much more you can do. Jodi
Guest guest
I think I read that a potassium deficiency could cause muscle cramps... Guest guest
I heard that it's a lack of absorbed calcium, and that supplements can help. I was, also, told that using Motrin (Ibuprofen, Advil) helps more than Tylenol, because it works as an anti-inflammatory. Guest guest
SORRY.... very confused apologies for the gender mix-up!! and yes, there are other things that can cause muscle cramps - hypocglycaemia doesn't usually, but it can. {{HUGS}} Steph > Hypoglycaemia can definately cause muscle cramps. Guest guest
I have been having horrible leg cramps at night. I had them when I was pregnant and these far outweigh those as far as the pain goes. It starts in my lower legs, but not really the back of my calves where the preg. ones did. My foot gets pulled up and I cannot walk or even move. They last for 10-15 min and come and go for over an hour or two. The pain is so bad that I thought I would have to call the squad. Has anyone else dealt with this? What is it? What can you do? I just cried and tried to stretch my leg out. It happned on both legs at the same time, but only severe on my right. Any help would be appreciated, Dawn
Guest guest
Lord, I remember these from pregnancy and they are the worst. Can only imagine how bad it was if it was worse than the pregnancy ones Dawn!!! I want to say when I was pregnant and having them they told me to eat banana's to try and up my potassium levels. Simple, but might be worth a try!! I think too this can be an issue if your dehydrated, so maybe increase fluid intake, preferably with Gatorade over water, and see if that might not help. Otherwise, having someone that could gently pull your toes away from your leg is usually the way to get it to let up....or standing on the floor will sometimes work also. Thoughts are with you.......these were the worst!!! -- BIG hugs, Kass, proud mom to Chance(10-Mito), Madison(7-Mito), and Abby(6-Mito) Updates (http://www.caringbridge.org/tx/mitowhat/) "Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away" Unknown thefiveofus02 wrote: I have been having horrible leg cramps at night. Guest guest
I am not much help here but understand the pain they cause. I have went in cycles with leg cramps. When they get bad I do lots of stretching just before I go to bed. I lean toward the wall and keep my legs straight and stretch it as far as possible. This has helped me some. The potassium thing does help too. When having the pain, depending on where it is, push the foot the opposite direction of the pull or have someone else so it. I hope you start feeling better and this nasty thing stops. I have found it happens more to me when I am fatigued or had too much activity that day or period of time. Try to get some rest and take care of yourself. Darla Leg cramps I have been having horrible leg cramps at night. I had them when I was pregnant and these far outweigh those as far as the pain goes. Guest guest
I have heard that not drinking enough water can cause leg cramps. Also if your potassium is low you can have leg cramps. My mother also has something called spastic leg syndrome, she tells me how painful it can be. I would consult your doctor and have them run some blood work. This should give you some answers why you are getting them and give you some relief.

Guest guest
Hi EveryOne, Wow I love the folks on this list!!!:-)) Thank you so much for your replies to my question about leg cramps. Most of what was recommended, I am already doing, - except.......... Potassium! I have some Magnesium Potassium Aspertate that I bought quite awhile ago and then forgot about. Just took one. It can't be lack of salt because it happens after dinner when I have just added lots of sea salt on my meal and salad. I take a lot of supplements including Solgar Muti Vit and Mins. Additonal zinc and selenium either as tablet or Brazil Nuts. Also happens when I have just eaten salted popcorn... I take Solgar Cal 1,000 and Mag 400 every night, but usually before bed, so often the cramps come before that, usually soon after dinner. Perhaps when one increases sodium, cal, mag, one needs to also increase potassium............ So I will experiment with adding potassium and see if that is what is missing. I also have the Homeopathic leg cramp tablets near my chair where I usually am sitting when the cramps happen but I too want to get to the causes..... The chair is a lazy boy and I have my legs up for the first time all day, wonder what that, or lying down to go to sleep has to do with the cramping, something about the horizontal position of the legs? Went back to 4 grains of Armour, feeling tired on 31/2 and around 10-15mg/day Cortisol in am and early afternoon, either as Isocort or Hydrocortone 2.5. Herbs for Adrenals too... Thank you again for your encouragement and support, it means a lot to me:-)) Peace, Love and Harmony, Bev Thyroid-Adrenal Connection Information & Resources http://www.bestweb.net/~om/thyroid
Guest guest
Hi Bev. Do let us know if the potassium does the trick. I'll add it to my regimine if it works for you.
