Guest guest
hello all, my wife is going in for a muscle biopsy, hopefully sooner than later, and is really interested to hear what it is like. her doctor tells us they will be taking a little piece of muscle from her leg under local anesthetic. what she is particularly interested in knowing is what to expect afterwards. any help? Guest guest
Hello, It depends on what type of biopsy they do. Mine was with ansethesia (on the table in a gown and all) and I couldn't walk for a week! But the doctor told me before the surgery that his patients go to work the next day, this in spite of the fact that I have a physical type job. Luckily, others who had it told me what the real deal was ahead of time. I have read others say they used a needle and local and some went back to work the next day, but that is not the type of biopsy I had. I suggest you have the doc/nurse describe the procedure, then you will know better what is the type of reaction/recovery to expect. To give more information, I made sure my laundry was done, I took two vacation days (with the weekend I figured I would be OK to go back the following Monday) and I paid bills and cleaned the house ahead of time. I had no spouse or help, so I had to prep just in case. Thank God I did! I had to use a wheelchair to walk for the first day, then I went home and leaned on the wall to get around. Luckily a good friend picked me up from the hospital and took me to the doc the next day. Also, since all chores were done, I didn't need to 'do' anything special during the 9-day healing period. I now have an unpleasant scar (2 1/2 " ), and a 'hollow' area, because the muscle tissue does not grow back. Others who had this also had the hollow area. A note: I forced the doc do it on my left leg so I could drive. I hope this helps. God bless, Hazelpone open muscle biopsy question > hello all, > my wife is going in for a muscle biopsy, hopefully sooner than later, and is really interested to hear what it is like. > her doctor tells us they will be taking a little piece of muscle from her leg under local anesthetic. what she is particularly interested > in knowing is what to expect afterwards. any help?
