Guest guest
Hi Lori. What great news! It sounds like will be on the move soon! We had a similar experience with Abbey. We had little hope that Abbey would walk without braces or a walker. She had severe low-tone. She started crawling at 14 mo; pulling up around 18 mo; and then nothing until her 3rd birthday when she took 5 independent steps. She started taking more and more and then she was off. (We started swim therapy this past summer). She still wobbles a lot but can usually catch her balance before falling. Walking has really opened the world up to her. She loves to go to the grocery store and walk around, looking at what she wants to look at! Let us know how the hippotherapy goes! , mom to Abbey (3 w/ Mito Complex I) > Hi all, My mito baby is 4 1/2 and severely developmentally impaired--otherwise, fairly healthy. He has been weight-bearing and could stand for very brief periods with AFO's and knee immobilizers. But, I had pretty much given up on walking. The PT said she was hopeful that he would one day be able to make transitions in and out of wheelchair or maybe take a few steps. Well, the last two days, he has shocked everyone by pulling up to stand on a routine basis!!! Now, I find myself getting my hopes up that even though it is late, his development is following the normal pattern---he started pushing up to sit about a year ago, and started crawling all over the place (not just commando) about 6 or 7 months ago. > > Anybody have any experience like this? Also, has been on a plateau now for some time. And, the only difference recently in his treatment is we started hippotherapy! Two Saturdays in a row of riding a horse and he starts pulling to stand. Is it a coincidence? > > Thanks! Lori, mom to
